Joshua Warren Backup And Migrate Drupal Module

Here is some irony for you all, I will be moving my new site http://www.addictedtech.co.nr to a better host and will have a .com domain, but the one thing that annoys me when transferring a site, is you have to backup and transfer files to the new server fair enough then you create a new sql database on the new server then backup the old one from the old server and import it into the new sql database on the new host. Then I would have to edit the conf… Continue

Shtanto Day after day

Now that I'm having RAID errors again, a lot of strange stuff is happening with my PC. Many of you might suggest this is just the halloween ghosties getting busy, but when half your start menu lights up and says prgrams you've used before haven't been touched yet, you know it's time to back up and RMA some faulty parts. Midterms are coming up fast, so I haven't really got the time to do the right thing just yet. With very few options to work with, I'm having to consider ways of getting my image… Continue

David Myers My Top 5 Tips for Moving or Upgrading an Operating System

With the ever approaching release of Windows 7, and the continually rising support for Mac and Linux, I thought I might give everyone my 5 tips based on personal experiences before Upgrading or Moving Operating System: 1) Back up data. This is probably the most important part of moving or upgrading. Don’t think “I’m only upgrading, My files will be fine!”. I’ve thought this in the past and files can be corrupted or even lost. I back up my files in two ways; A Hard Drive Image of my working sys… Continue

Adam Carbonite Online Backup

I have been keeping up with Leo Laporte since the TechTV days. Now that he has his own internet network, I have been watching his shows on the TWiT Network. He advertises this great backup service called Carbonite. This services is a fast and secure way to back up your files. You are able to backup any amount of data that you want. Pyralis Profile Frustrations

This is more of a rant, but whatever... I just had to redo the html in my text box on my profile page three times! I'm going to be backing up my code every time I modify it from now on because I never know when it's going to hang when saving and loose all of the code I have entered. I managed to track down the problem to something with the system not liking the YouTube embed code for some reason. After taking all of the code that I had backed up and pasting it back into my profile, the system… Continue

Mike Copeland Backing up your computers is serious business

Never in my life has backing up my files been such a serious and real matter. Just a few weeks ago my laptops hard drive died, I knew it was close, but I thought I had just a little more time. I had moved 83GB’s worth of files over from my external hard drive so that I could make room to move my iTunes folder over. However when I finally went to restore the folder from the laptop the hard drive started having read and write errors and making sounds. To make a long story short, you should backup… Continue

Devon Harvancik How To Backup our iPod Touch and iPhone App Data Without Jailbreaking

If you want to restore or you are thinking about jailbreaking and don't want to lose any of your game data, levels, scores, progress, then do this. First go into iTunes and backup your iPhone or iPod Touch like normal. Once it's all backed up, (for Vista) go to Start, Owner (or whatever your username is), AppData, Roaming, Apple Computer, Mobile Sync, Backup, then there should be a folder that has a lot of letters that don't make sense. Right click copy and paste it to your desktop or wherever y… Continue

The 64-bit geek Backing up music CD´s

After the move to a new apartment I was going through the music CD´s that I´ve got. Some of them gave the CD reader a headake, they started to get old and harder to read. So now I have started to make backup of them all on my computer. Not as MP3´s but as image files. I want to keep them as they are, not compressed. They take some space on the hard drive but it´s worth it to keep them as a original. If the original CD is lost, breaks and will be unreadable I can just burn it out on a new CD. It… Continue

Beau Dierman How to Backup Your DVD Movies

In my previous guide, I talked about how to make a DVD Movie from a video file using DVDFlick. This time I will explain how to make backup copies of your DVD movies using IMGBurn. Making backups is a very wise practice, since DVD Movies happen to be so fragile -- a badly placed scratch can stop most DVD Players in their tracks, rendering your movie possibly useless. So go grab your DVD library and some blank media and get ready to… Continue

darthpenguin What is the Best Backup Software?

Ubuntu has OpenOffice.org. It has Firefox and Evolution. It has Rhythm Box and The Gimp. You can install Inkscape and VLC. It plays mp3 and now YouTube videos play flawlessly. Ubuntu looks better then Windows or Mac, especially with desktop effect enabled. And, if you wish, you can run Windows or any other OS using Virtual Box. Ubuntu is free and will run on most hardware. So why do so many people use Mac? I’m not talking about people in the movie or graphics industry who need to use Phot… Continue

Nancie Instilling geekiness in the next Generation and Beyond

All of my kids have U3 sticks that have a browser and Essential PM, the freebie portable version.

I came up with the idea when yet another computer started to have problems and my husband uninstalled EVERYTHING - just before one of the hard drives died. While some files were backed up on the USB drive, We had some problems with our LAN drive and lost some files there, too. When my hard drive crashed on my computer, I finally suggested that we all get U3 sticks.

Now I have… Continue
