I am new to the site, and was referred here by Chris.
He suggested that you all might know what to do ....Help!
My Macbook is about 3 1/2 years old...never any problems...NONE.
I signed on two days ago, after about 3 weeks after having just returned from
a trip. The Macbook was in the brief case for that time, ...started it up and
it asked me if I wanted to download an update...one of the basic programs on
my laptop and I clicked YES...(I forget which update!)
Since that time, I cannot get the d… Continue

I've been a long time Ubuntu and Linux user. Don't get me wrong, I try to use as many different operating systems as often as I can, but primarily on my machines, I've been using Ubuntu or some variant of Ubuntu for around 4 years now.
People ask me, why use Linux? I tell them, it's fun. To me, using Linux is somewhat of an ongoing never ending project to make your computer work best. And whats different of that rather than in Windows or Mac is that on Linux the job is on your shoulders to do s… Continue

I just bought a logitech marble trackball, it's something I've been meaning to try out for sometime and now I finally got one.
Over the years I have mainly used mice, sometimes the built-in touchpad on laptops and occasionally a tablet and pen. I've even tried voice commands with some funny results but I'd never used a trackball.
It does take a little getting used to but after using it over this weekend i must admit that it is growing on me.
I wanted to try a trackball mainly for photo editing… Continue

If you're at work or in college (as I am) you may have lost a USB key at some stage. Or have you?
The windows registry is like an oven that never gets washed, unless you use a registry cleaner of course. I never saw any reason to tamper with it. It aint broke. My registry contains a unique serial ID of my USB key from when I last used it with my computer. All USB devices have this. Just run a search for usbstor and you'll eventually hit paydirt under currentcontrolset001, devices.
My own USB k… Continue

Hello everyone, this posts is my first one in ages so bare with me as I try and get my skill back.
Okay, the start of the story goes something like this. I got a virus I had to format my beloved hard disk and I could not be bothered to install windows again and put up with its crap all over again, even though windows 7 is a dream. But anyway, I installed Ubuntu's latest and greatest instalment, version 9.10 and I have to say well done, like seriously. I love it.... So far. To install programs a… Continue

Today is the worst day you can ever imagine. Streets will be filled with blood. Cemeteries will generate zombies. Birds, bats, and fish will come flying out of nowhere to try to eat your eyes. Every step, pole, ladder, and desk will be out to trip you up and kill you with one well placed blow to the head. Bells will play louder and louder, drilling the same tune into your head all day long until you go mad. Your bank accounts will freeze. You’ll lose your job. Your home will burn down. Your frie… Continue

For all of my domains, instead of setting up a mail server on all of my servers, I use Google Apps instead. Google apps is like having your own Google account, except for your domain. The main feature I use is Email, but there is also Docs, Chat, Mobile, and much more. It is very easy to setup, more so than setting up a mail server of your own, because all you have to do is put in a few MX records. There are a few versions of Google Apps, one is free and the other isn’t. I use the free version b… Continue

Hello everyone. Dan here, I've been talking to many people both online and in person about security software and have gotten mixed reviews about many different products as well as good reviews about really old and somewhat out of date products (which worries me a little) and decided to post this blog, which is my first blog *audience cheer* and ask the question: What IS your security set-up and what programs do you prefer and/or recommend and use?
My set-up:
- Avast! Home Edition 4.8
- COMODO F… Continue

Anti-virus protection, critical security patches and a secure wireless connection have always been essential processes on my networks. My main concern has always been to protect my bank account by keeping the bad guy out.
In my presentations, I’ve always stressed the importance of making su
I really had to write this to my blog. Looks like water finds itself even in places you don't think it exists, even through it is in other forms than we are used to it's still water. Anyway, imagine what this means, if water has been found on the Moon there could be thousands of other life forms out there. Something tells me that as soon as we get closer to 2012 more things about the universe will come clear, not to mention we might be contacted by an actual intelligent race. Secondly there are… Continue
