1. India has pretty sketchy power, so if it was going to happen anywhere, it would be there. 2. This didn't actually happen; it's a hoax.

Playlists are lists of shortcuts, not physical collections of files. To keep iTunes from arranging your files (these instructions are for the PC version): Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced Remove the check from "Keep iTunes Music folder organized."

Ah, good point. Duh. It's always the money, innit? (I shouldn't type before caffeine.)

I use XP on my work box because my employer hasn't bothered to upgrade to Vista. Windows 7 is still in beta; no one would install it on a mission critical machine. I would not strongly advise most users to upgrade to Vista because, as a support ...

Apparently, Google's been working on next-gen TV for over five years and have yet to bring anything to market. I refuse to believe that it's THAT hard to improve on telly... it's so bad to begin with that anything would be an improvement! ;-) i co...

I agree with you, the TV has been an overlooked technology for too long.

Ideas For the Television Industry

In which I can't figure out why TV still sucks so much when there are technologies available that could easily make it suck less.

tv Last night, while sitting at the brew pub eating a Gardenburger and idly gazing at the cable commercial showing on the glass teat hanging above the bar, I, who am really not much of a television watcher anyway, wondered why the television industry hasn't yet invented TV that doesn't s… Continue

In which I'm back in the support industry and it shows.

Dear people on the other end of my phone line,

Listen up, because I only wanna have to tell you this one (moar) time. There are a few painfully basic things I need you to know before we can continue with our relationship:

1. YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE DIALED UP IN ORDER FOR ME TO TECH YOUR FUCKING PROBLEM. Don't argue with me. I'm right. You don't need to be dialed up. Trust me.

2. I know waaaaay more about how the Internet works than you do. WAY more. If I say it's a DNS issue, it's a fucking DNS… Continue

My Geek Gear

My home computer is a trusty old IBM ThinkPad A30. Half of the screws have fallen out of it, and so I never carry it anywhere - I just leave it set up at home.

I carry a Dell Axim X51 mid PocketPC. It has built-in Bluetooth and WiFi, and I use it primarily to read ebooks (in Mobipocket) and to solve bar arguments by googling answers to bar trivia questions.

My cell phone is a pink Sanyo Katana and my carrier is Sprint.

I have a 30Gb 5th gen iPod video.

I also have an eBookwise eBook reader. I bought it for myself for Xmas last year and was really excited about it when I got it, but after using it for awhile decided to go back to using a PPC for ebook reading.

I also have several cases in the attic that I'm not doing anything with, multiple thumbdrives, a few hard drives and assorted USB enclosures, two old PPCs, and a whole bunch of A/C adapters.

I run SETI@home on every computer I can get my hands on.
