Profile Information

What kind of geek are you?
Geek, born and raised
Why do you consider yourself a geek?
My dad built a microprocessor programer in a hollowed out Snap-On tool box when I was a kid. Scarred me for life. I eventually ended up falling in with a crowd of geeks in high school. I even hung a hard drive platter off my bookbag one year.
How did you find out about our Geek community?
Cousin Greg
What are your "geeky equipment" specs?
HP Pavillion dv6700 1.9Ghz dual-core w/2gigs

T-Mobile Dash upgraded to Windows Mobile 6.1 "Kavana"

Bluetooth GPS

Canon Digital Rebel

Canon 28-135mm IS USM (my fav lens)

Wacom Graphire 3 tablet

Adobe Photoshop CS3

A hand-built PC, connected to 27" HDTV to serve up media and download all my torrents.

A bag full of dongles and cables and lots of little gadgets.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
I'm 27, it's kinda late for that. Actually I kinda like what I am.
What makes you laugh?
Everything. I laugh at everything. Myself included.
What is the thing in life you treasure most?
My wife and my son, Bean. I love my gadgets alot, but I'd toss 'em all under a bus to take care of wife and child.
What do you do to entertain yourself?
Learn something new. I like to keep up on the latest mobile technology. I imagine myself a hot-shot web designer/blogger. I am neither.
Favorite music, movies, books, shows, artists, games, people, events, hobbies, etc.?

It's friday, and I was geeky today.

Wow, lots of geeky stuff today.

Let's start with this: I finally got around to running a Speakeasy speed test on my Comcast service today. Results below.

16.8Mb/s! No wonder the connection at work seems slow.

A tip for all my fellow Zune owners out there. A couple months ago I reformatted the hard drive on the computer I use for watching movies and music on the living room tv. After reinstalling Windows I decided… Continue

My Own IMDB

My wife and I love to shop for deals on used DVDs. We hit Gamestop recently and snagged 12 movies for 30 bucks. They were having a "buy 2, get 4" deal going on. Apparently some of their stores will no longer be selling/trading used DVDs.

The only downside is we're never sure when we're going to stumble in a really good DVD sale. And when we do, we always have to try and remember whether we own a particular movie or not. There have been quite a few times that we've returned home only to discover… Continue

Tiny URLs will kill the future of the internet

I recently started using TinyURL after creating my Twitter account. I was looking for an old driver today which made me start thinking about links and people using these shortened URLs. I know that TinyURL's site states that the links are permanent. But, what happens if TinyURL goes under, or takes their servers offline? Do we end up with hundreds of broken links? Doesn't that defeat the purpose?

Yes, I love my Zune, and thanks for the compliment regarding my choice of screen name. I agree, Microsoft is really taking care of all their Zune customers with the software and firmware updates!
