Wireless Network Problem

So, I have a wireless 802.11 b/g router (Ativa or staple's brand) and
a Macbook Pro (the 13 in that came out after WWDC 2009) and if i need
to download a large software update or view certain websites like
garmin.com or something the connection freezes up and the Kb/s slows
down exponentially to nothing and I have to unplug the power on my
router to reconnect because if I try to do it without resetting, the
macbook jut says connection timed out. It is not a problem with
