How can geeks go beyond pirillo?

I'm old school, so I'm more familiar with old school geeks like Gary Gygax. I'm not so old school that I cant at least look up where I suspect I might of heard of this Pirillo person.... ... ... N…

what would be your heaven?

You've never heard of Gaius Caligula, the mad Emperor of Rome? Who once made his horse a Roman Senator? Who prostituted the wives of Senators, and diefied himself before he died (as opposed to after,…

Using Cell Phones while driving?

Theres one argument that hasnt been made. People are stupid enough on the road to begin with. Do we need to add to it? In fact, I'll post my Rhode Island rant in my blog just so I dont hijack this t…

I'd view armed and dangerous as a specific category - we're not nearly as heavily armed as Angelinos, until you get into the backwaters of Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine - and even then the arms are more for blowing hole in critters rather than f…

Everyone says Boston is the worst. But LA practically invented it and are "improving" on it.. I was on the Pasadena freeway when all the traffic came to a halt while we observed two cars playing destruction derby style bumper cars with each other ta…

I agree with a lot of what you are saying. Especially the Jersey portion. I'm from New Jersey and we are angry drivers. We are all impatient. Myself included! I can get really angry at stupid people when they drive, other then that, I'm pretty calm.

Pfft. We're a pagan family - its a real holiday for us, and we make a much bigger deal out of it that Christmas, which we view as a secular holiday (we've got time off, might as well spend it with the inlaws). Now, the boy is 6, so his answer varies…

I liked Ponyo - its not his best, but still excellent, and a nice retelling of the Little Mermaid. And no damn singing. I actually wasnt thrilled with Howl, but I think thats because it wasnt his writing. It was an author he likes, but while I thou…

Almost never - I rarely even use a cellphone, and almost never use it while driving even then. The only time I ever had questionable behavior with a cellphone while driving was trying to score Rush tickets from the local classic rock station. Didnt…

What kind of geek are you?
Oldschool
Why do you consider yourself a geek?
I have a 12-sider so smooth its almost a marble. I played pong, Wizardry, and the original SimCity, Civ, and Sims. I played Keep on the Boarderland era D&D, all the Shadowrun eds., and the original box set of Battletech. I'm a geographer.
How did you find out about our Geek community?
ning advert
What do you want to be when you grow up?
Yeah, right.
What's the geekiest thing you've ever done?
Oh, there isnt room. The geekiest thing lately?
I dont know which is more geeky - the fact that I used Suetonius to check where the TV show Rome diverged in its history, or the fact that I've got a copy of The Twelve Caesars on my bookshelf.

Rhode Rage

(Authors Note: this was previously posted December 16, 2008, in a private social network. The following contains harsh language that may not be suitable for those who find such things offensive. This is however, my personal blog, and I believe the topic warrants such language. -Don)

After surviving two years of commuting through the great state of Rhode Island, I would like to say that Rhode Islanders are, as far as I can tell, the worst drivers in all of the United States. Now, its true, I h… Continue

Currently Vistumbler detects b/g/n.

My current mobile setup is a 16 dBi omnidirectional with a 500mW realtek Wifi USB adapter, so I tend to smell more wifi than most.
