perl is simple. Can't recommend any books though.
I agree with this post.
I Also agree with that. Now. my main programming language is C#.net . It's nearly the same with VB.NET.
I recommend Visual Basic.NET .You can download it at http://microsoft.com/express . It's really good for beginners.
And for the books, I recommend Wrox' books. homepage : www.wrox.com
