What kind of geek are you?

Tech and software geek

What are your "geeky equipment" specs?

1.Core2 2,2, 2GB ram, gForce8500, X-Fi, 320 GB hd XP/Vista, used for gaming, video recoding (backing up my dvd`s) and audio creation/editing.
2. P4 2,66 1,5 GB ram, ATI X800, Audigy 2, 320 GB hd , Ubuntu Linux 8.04, used as my "work horse" to browse the net, use Xen for testing, Miro for watching "WebTV", casual gaming, and everything else!
3. P4 2,4, 1 GB ram, gForce 5200, 2x320 GB hd, 500 GB hd, 2x750 GB hd, FreeBSD. So this is my server... for backup and media shareing.
4. Old Xbox with XBMC and emualtors...SNES anyone?

What do you want to be when you grow up?

A whanted to be a soldier. But as I became one I changed my mind...

What makes you laugh?

Good word play, stand up comedy.

What is the thing in life you treasure most?

My four kids!

What's the geekiest thing you've ever done?

making a firewall from scratch! Making my own case, finding the right processor and mainboard, then compiling the kernel and the rest of it!

It was an utterly failure but; hey! It was fun!

What do you do to entertain yourself?

I have four kids and thats a lot of fun! (but exhausting)

Favorite music, movies, books, shows, artists, games, people, events, hobbies, etc.?

I am a like it all, go getter with ADD and strong feeling that things are not as they seem in this (new) world (order), and a lot of time goes in to research of political questions. And I am a software and music making geek, and that takes up the rest of my time.

Windows 7 pre beta...

If this is a sign of things to come, I am impressed! I used vista beta when it came out, and had some trouble with it. But win 7 pre beta feels like an RTM, and not pre beta. My hat off to Microsoft. This don`t mean I am abandoning Linux, but it gives everybody more choice! And the slow to convert corporate world, is more likely to wait fore this, than upgrade to vista... I know firms that still run Win2000... not the most secure thing maybe, but the cost and learning curve puts them off.

Jippi! Ubuntu 8.10 for me!!

My last blog post in here was about not getting Ubuntu 8.10 on to one of my 2 test boxes. I took the chance and upgraded my Dell "production" system, cause the ATI drivers I needed for it had finally appeared!

By the way... anybody know a well supported Linux distro that uses Enlightenment 17 desktop, that just had a "stable" release. I want to take my old PIII 450 and give is some new life. Yes I could use something like Xubuntu, but I allready have to boxes running some flavor of a Xfce distr… Continue

No Ubuntu 8.10 for you!

I like testing new software, and I use Hardy as my primary OS... But now I can`t test 8.10! I have to boxes I use for testing and both don`t have vital driver support! the worst of them being the Intel NIC problem as that is the network interface on both boxes! But eventually it will be fixed... I remember back in the Linux mandrake days, I had a DVD drive die, and one NIC die on me when installing a beta of RedHat back in the day... but that`s the way of beta some times!

Vista vs Linux vs OSX vs XP.... I don`t care!!!!

OMGPatty had a question... And it`s a valid one. Do you vant to change? Yes some times you do... I change all the time, but I am not representable as I am a software geek, trying every ting at least one time. And you? Do you use more then one OS? Personally I love them all! ( exception to that rule is Windows ME... )
