Programming is a wide field... what do you want to program? You should figure that out first, then you'll be able to see what languages you need to learn and go from there...

Commodore 64 connected to a TV baby! I even had a 5.25 inch floppy drive and dot matrix printer attached to it. Still works today; they don't make them like they used to.

For Macs, you can use the built-in Keychain feature, which is actually a lot more powerful than people give it credit for, or, you can use an app like 1Password to store bits of private data.

Been a while...

Man I realized how long it has been since I posted here... Things have been rather crazy, but I'm back!

So! What is there to report. I wanted to take a moment and talk about Net Neutrality. This has been a hot topic as of late with the FCC moving towards a ruling on it. The prevailing trend is that, unless you are a service provider, you are for Net Neutrality.

Defined rather simply, net neutrality is the concept that a service provider cannot in any way filter the content you are able to acce… Continue

Snow Leopard Released on Friday

So, the next big cat from Apple is being released this Friday. As the clock counts down, there are still analysts scrambling to predict what it will be like and what it means for Apple. Some are predicting that this release is little more than PR to fight back against Windows 7. Microsoft has been heating up the OS Cold War as of late. Apple 2009 Advanced Professional Services Tech Camp

I forgot to mention this, but I wanted to throw it out there. If you are ACN or APSP, you can sign up to go to the annual must-attend event for Mac System Administrators: the Advanced Professional Services Tech Camp. It will be held at the Q Center in Chicago, IL, Nov. 15-20th.

There isn't an official page up for it yet, but stay tuned for more information.

Yelp! If you Got'em!

So, I went to a party for a friend of mine who is moving to a different state. While there, I was introduced to some wonderful people who are friends of his. Upon introduction, I got asked the question, am I one of John's Yelper friends. I had no idea what they were talking about, but I soon found out.

If you have not been to the site yelp.com, go. It is actually really interesting. It is sort of social networking meets reviews. At it's simplest form, it is a place that you can go and write rev… Continue

To Beta, Or Not To Beta. That is the Question...

Recently a number of Google Apps. came out of their beta stage and entered world of 1.0. An interesting move, not in and of itself, but rather because it brought up the issue of what Beta really means these days. It used to be that "beta" really meant that a software was in the testing phase, not ready for prime production. Often times, these tests were private, open to only a few people.

With Google Apps, however, the playing field changed. These beta apps were open to just about everyone. Mor… Continue
