lol, i just prefer centos as a server OS beacuse frankly its alot easier to configure. If you dont belive me try setting up a domain controller on ubuntu and getting windows xp clients to connect to it... :P

im needing a cd drive so that i can install centos the way you normally would. What im having to do right now is to take the hard drive out of the server and put the hard drive into another machine and then use that to install centos. The reason i suspect centos isnt working properly is beacuse its configuring x for the display adapter of the machine that the installtion was performed on. So when i take the centos HDD and put it into another machine, X fails to start beacuse X hasnt been configured for the display adapter in that machine and has no driver for the display adapter in that machine.

well it can run ubuntu with X no problem and also makes a half hearted attempt at the fancy graphics. The laptop drive is not for a laptop but for my webserver. The reason i suspect why X isnt working is because i had to take the hard drive out of the webserver and put it into a machine with a working CD drive and install centos that way. For some reason ubuntu has no problem with this, but CentOS doesnt like it much it would seem. As for using the machine without X - im confident using command line, but im a bit too lazy to do things like file copying in command line, so i prefer X for that :)

i use ubuntu linux right now, i started on CentOS actually, but i messed it up when i accidentally deleted the root account (i know, lol). I wanted to move back to ubuntu linux as i run a webserver and would prefer a CentOS webserver to an ubuntu one, but sadly CentOS refuses to work with the machine im trying to install it on, X server refuses to start and none of the drivers i can find will make it work :@. So im stuck with ubuntu until i can find another server to use.

Talking of which, do you know where i can get a dell laptop CD drive that would fit a Dell Optiplex GX60?

Thanks

-Lens
