Feckless in Seattle: Old Media Meets Click Fraud

As some of you may know, I was recently in a contest sponsored by local Seattle-based radio station, 107.7 The End. The concept was to become the city's greatest "End"fluencer by competing in a series of challenges to prove influence.

The prize: $5,000 awarded by station sponsor Miller Lite.

The contest consisted of three Challenges:

  1. Blog -- Update a station-run blog page and compete for pageviews.

  2. Show Us Your Log

Citizen Journalism? There's an App for that.

Really. There's an app for that. Well, there will be this week, so iPhone users get pumped.

Fwix is a year-old website that collects links to local news and blogs in 85 cities across the country. The iPhone application will allow users to file news updates, photos and videos, live from the field.

“We believe we are the real-time local newswire,” said Darian Shirazi, Fwix’s 22-year-old founder.

The media is relying more frequently on neighborhood… Continue

Will Big Brother Pay?

I wrote earlier about the possibility of a Kindle Killer entering the ereader market and briefly mentioned Amazon's fuck up a few weeks ago when they remotely deleted several of their ebooks, including Orwell's "1984". Two Kindle users are hitting back now.

This past Thursday, Antoine Bruguier of California and Justin Gawronski, a high school student from Michigan, filed a class-action lawsuit against Amazon for violating the Washington Consumer Protection Act and the Computer Fraud and Abuse A… Continue

Kindle Killer?

There's been a lot of news lately surrounding "Big Brother" Amazon and its wildly successful Kindle. Recalling e-books afer purchase? Consumers were refunded, but it definitely rocked the boat when they couldn't find a replacement for some of the titles.

Plastic Logic, based in Mountain View, California, is making the eReader, available in 2010, that hopes to compete with Amazon's Kindle. Guess who partnered with them? None other than the world's largest book store chain, Barnes & Noble. Fo… Continue

I don't Digg it.

UPDATE
So, I just watched an interview with Kevin Rose, Digg co-founder, on live.twit.tv with Leo Laporte.

(Laporte gives Rose the background)
Laporte: Is that true?
Rose: That’s a good question.
Laporte: You don’t know?
Rose: I’ve been gone for 2 weeks so I don’t know what got pushed, what code got pushed and how it functions but my last understanding is that what we wanted to do is have it so that if you click on a Digg URL it takes you to the Digg stories so you can D

Just watched your video and wow, now I want an iPhone. the G-1 has an app that uses the Barcode Scanner to share contact information, but just not as cool as Bump, nor as fast. Cool vid, You should do more. I'll have to check out your stuff on YouTube.

Gaming, WOW huh? LOL... I never got into it, but there is a new Star Wars one that is supposed to be nothing like Galaxies and be a ton more like W.O.W. and I think I'm going to get into it. It looks awesome. Not sure when it comes out and I do hope the do one for the Mac, or it will get installed into my Windows 7 that runs in Parallels. Either way, I think it is time to get in on these massive online virtual worlds and games.

Hey, Jedi, any idea when this game comes out?

awwwh, yeah, I have my gadgets that I love a little to much. My G-1 and my MacBook. I also love my PC Laptop that is running the RTM of Windows 7 Ultimate, which I was able to obtain an advanced copy through work. With Windows 7, I can love the PC again. But, I do like change and although making it dual boot with Ubuntu Linux did add a tone of fun to the system, owning and using a Mac is amazing. I actually plan on doing some videos soon in which you can see me on webcam, but, in a small window on my mac desktop, and as the viewer, you would see my whole Mac desktop. That way, I can do some "How To" videos for new Mac users and actually show them as I talk about it.

I'm doing alright.
Just gave in my car to the workshop and now I have to drive a rental. Its a Toyota and pretty reasonable. I like its smooth ride and nippy handling, but its doesn't have the 'X" factor that Alfas do.

I'm great, thanks for asking. So, when you say too much, did you mean price? I love Apple and all they make, but would agree that their prices are a bit high. I love my MacBook Pro, but even with a college student discount, it took a chunk. In the pic it looks like you have a white one, witch they don't offer anymore so your one of the lucky ones. I don't own one yet, I got the Google (T-Mobile) G-1, which uses the Android Linux system and is a great phone, but it does't have the clean polished look of the iPhone, and, the graphics aren't as great. The one thing i like about my G-1 is that I can turn it into a wireless router and connect my MacBook to it and get the internet to the MacBook without being plugged into the phone with a cable. However, I must confess, I want an iPhone next.

Anyway, thanks for the quick reply, I hope your weekend is going great.

A Jedi, now why didn't I think of that? Actually, as a kid I wanted to be Superman and/or a Jedi. I think I was destined for being a Geek form the start. LOL.... Nice iPhone by the way.
