Any help for a new Linux user?

I just got a Linux Ubuntu computer. great right? well yes and no. The problem I'm having is i don't know where to start or what to do. i have installed WINE and Compiz-fusion, but thats about it. if anyone could give me some ideas as to where to start, i would greatly appreciate it.
