The OS Vista itself eats up a good chunk of RAM. I don't recommend turning Pagefile off till you have at least 6GB RAM.
Same goes for Windows 7.
Flash also eats a lot of RAM

Not everybody uses one app at a time
Oh...
I've got a Gigabyte EP45-UD3R.
Linux IS awful with drivers... Although I've gotten most of my stuff to work out of the box. Only problem that I had was with my wireless card, and I could set it up with ndiswrapper in about 10 steps.

btw instead of keeping windows or mac, there's always linux 64bit..thought its not fully developed..
instead of vista or win7/8 wait for mac os 10.6...tried one of the dev builds n if apple will continue developing on this way, the new mac os will totally kick ass..almost all built-in apps are already in 64bit
This sort of thing did happen to me on a Mac. Leopard ships with 64 bit Apache. Unfortunately if you upgrade / recompile any part of it (PHP, MySQL etc) it flips out and won't work unless everything is universal 64 bit.
It makes me a little nervo...
It's funny when it's pulled out of the context. You are right, when this statement of mine is pulled out of the context in a few years, it will be funny, too. But I will then have 4TBs of DDR15 RAM and you will still use your old buffed 8GB machin...
Sorry, I meant for the 8GB required for 10hrs of videos.
Yeah, I never seen nothing exceeding 2 GB but I have 3 GB and turn off virtual memory ( page file )
