I'm really excited about the new language enhancements. The one exception is the optional parameters. I wish they would have just left that with VB.NET. I've already got a lot of update plans for the parallel extensions. The dynamic type is someth...

I know that this is an old discussion, but some good tutorials would be on the new features that are available in 4.0. You can use these features if you have the 2010 beta 2. Another idea would be to devote one tutorial to each of the different co...

I'm currently writing an MMO called Cat World in Java. I personally love the language, it's fairly simple to understand when you first start, and gets more complex as you need it to. My two biggest issues with Java right now are that 1: Apple seem...

What state is Java in?

It has been a long time since I have written anything in Java. Now I am in a situation where I think going multi-platform for the future is worth going back to Java.

I have been in the Cocoa/.NET world for so long now, I don't know about the advances in the java langauge and platform. I know that when I was writing Java it had a horrible reputation for running slow. Actually, there were a lot of complaints about Java at that time, but that seemed to be the main one.

How do you feel about Java… Continue

Where to get supported?

Hey all,

I don't want this message to be very long. This is a simply question that I just need a good answer for. Basically, the story is that I am starting a class for a local college for iPhone development. I am not sure yet how many students will be there, so sorry I can't give that piece of information.

The college currently does not have a lot of Mac machines, if any at all. This is the only apple development related course that they will have, it this is more of a workshop anyway.

Okay,… Continue

It is official, I'm a cheater.

If you are a developer that has to work with Windows everyday, I'm sorry. I know a lot of us doing enterprise development have to deal with Windows. Don't get me wrong, I am extremely thankful for all of the great tools and the great C# language. I love my job.

The only thing I don't like is Windows. Well, after this weekend I will not longer be using Windows at home. I'm now on the Mac at home. I am telling you guys, if you have never taken the time to see what Mac OS X is all about, please do… Continue

Windows, you don't need glass, you need new UI controls!

Hi all,

So, I want to be completely honest up front. This is a vent post about Microsoft's decision to put so much focus on everything with out accomplish, what I believe, should be a primary goal for them if they are trying to capture more of the consumer audience with a user experience that matches (or at least gets close to) that of Mac OS X.

Now, looking back on previous versions of Windows, you see the same trend. Tab controls are ugly, buttons are ugly, forms are ugly... you get the idea… Continue

What Mac OS X applications are you missing?

With all the software out there, what Mac OS X application are you missing?

I have spent a good amount of time moving my development knowledge over to Cocoa and just need some suggestions on a application that is needed for this fantastic platform. So, if you have any suggestions please leave a comment.

Of course, this doesn't apply only to applications that are missing. Do you have a current application that just barly gets the job done? Lets make it better! I would also like a small team of… Continue
