I got a few pc's so loading it on one I'm not using isn't an issue.
What are the spec's on the laptop? ... so we can lets others know to expect some lag.
Are you running other servers besides UPNP? I read in one of those posts on the group that smb works great... may have been on the nwt wiki.
Are you on a 10/100 or gigabit network?
