How would you compare Mac OS X with FreeBSD?

Thanks for the reply Dust,. I solved the problem. The fact was I was able to play videos and hear it. But from fresh installation of KDE, I couldn't see a way to adjust the volume. I soon realized that I had to add an application or panel - "kmixer" or something. After that was done, I could see a volume control.

Hello Dust,
Been a while. I installed FreeBSD and the KDE desktop. I tried Gnome, it kept giving me errors when I click to shutdown the system, etc. So far I like the KDE system and can see why users like it. My only problem now is the fact that I cannot adjust the sound from the GUI. I know the sound drivers are installed correctly, 'coz it plays when ever the computer starts up.
Any ideas??

Well everything I said was what I had read about on the web. I wasn't entirely sure whether what I read was correct or not. I just needed a proper confirmation from someone.
I have to admit, I see the appeal of KDE. Its looks like its the future alright. In all my usage of Linux, I have always used Gnome 'coz its default. Now since with FreeBSD, since I have the choice, I'm kinda lost.

It is clear that there is more support for Gnome considering that major distros of Linux use it as default. But you find out that 60% of GNU / Linux Users use KDE rather than Gnome. Only 24 - 30% use Gnome, while the rest are divided to Xfce, blackbox, fluxbox, etc.
Even if you look at distros of FreeBSD like DesktopBSD and PC-BSD, they use KDE too.
Given this, although Gnome is more stable, there has to be something in KDE that makes it a choice for most users.

Choosing in between KDE or Gnome is rather difficult. For one thing they pretty much even other out. Checking out forums, I can see that each has its following and claim one to be better than the other.
Which do you use? And why?

So DesktopBSD attempts to make FreeBSD easier to use without changing much it much.
PC-BSD is looking to create a version that is as easy to use as a Mac...
