I agree Arch Linux has been a personal fave. Since I installed it on my Macbook Pro.
I use Fedora, it's always in the edge, new technologies, first taste of any outcomes. It's not "friendly" for new users, but not so hard either.
I couldn't confirm this as I don't have a Mac myself - but I do have SAM Broadcaster. I have a feeling from past experience with virtual machines that SAM simply won't be able to perform under a virtual environment. You may experience drop outs / ...
