I like your solution. In the uk we have a scheme whereby you can opt out of receiving all these unsolicited calls. I'm not 100% sure how it works but it makes it illegal for anyone operating in the uk to call you unless you have given them prior per…

Hmm. So Thanksgiving is all about eating, drinking and sleeping? Well, even though it's not celebrated here in the uk I think I can improvise based on the information I have from this thread. So, I declare next Monday my personal UK style thanksgiv…

Simple. We don't have thanksgiving over here in the uk so for me it's work as normal. Enjoy your Thanksgiving day off or whatever it is you all do for it. BTW When is it?

From what I've learned about thanksgiving I think I would really enjoy that holiday. Unfortunately we don't have it over here in UK so that leaves Christmas as my big favourite. Christmas for me is a big family time. christmas eve after work it is j…

Hello, and thanks for being a member of Cooks in the Basement. Our group has been going for 8+ months now, and I am hoping to see some holiday tips and recipes from our folks in the days to come. Thank you again for being a part of it. Seasons Greetings!

I don't think it's possible to be "too old" to be a writer!?

(And shouldn't you be in bed by now? But then, I'm not one talk! Haha)

12hrs/day, 6 days a week!? That's completely insane! No wonder she got burnt out. But I'm glad to hear she's happier with her new schedule. :)

Night!

Thanks for your comment! Ah, it's nice to dream... :D

3 on 3 off rota sounds awesome! I've been trying to convince my boss to let me switch to a 4 day, 40 hour work week. No go so far. :(

I know what you mean. If I start this group I don't want to be a flake about it. If I do you'll be the first to know!

Fantasy wrestling? Wow - never heard of that! I'll check out that link tomorrow.

Cheers!

Totally! Can you believe there's no group for it yet? I put out a forum post to see if there are other fans out there. It'll take some time to setup though, I want to make sure I've got it together before throwing a group up. Got to be a responsible group admin! (After all, it's frustrating when people start groups but then there's no activity.)

H2G2 Geek! XD I wish I'd had the pleasure of experiencing the original radio broadcast!

Now you've got me all excited with this talk of Hitchhiker's. Time crack open my copy again I think!

Is there a group for that on here yet? If not, we should start one! Any other Hichhiker's fans out there?

Hitchiker's - awesome! But if you've never read it before, I highly recommend doing yourself a favor and not reading the last book. It nearly ruined the whole experience for me. :(

Don't sell your soul! If your looking for a great MP3 player I highly recommend Creative. I have four, two of the Zen Micro variety and two of the Vision:M variety. I absolutely love my Vision:M's, but they're out of production. :( The huge amount of space on them makes them ideal for audiobooks and movies! :o)

Where does the time go?

I just realised that it has been over a month since I last logged on to geeks to see what has been happening. Wow!! Where does the time go?

A lot has happened in that time. I have completed a successful trial at work using a depot control system called "Yard smart" by C3 systems. maybe some of you who work in logistics may have heard of it? I am now back on my native job of truck driving, but hopefully I have alerted my bosses to the fac… Continue

A frustrating night battling with poor pc software

I've just had a really frustrating night on my pc.

First of all I log on to my windows account (eventually) only to find half my desktop icons missing. Apparently, my wife logged in to her user account and, wondering where all the strange icons had appeared from, promptly deleted them! This meant that they also vanished from my desktop! Surely it's not beyond the capabilities of programmers to design software that only installs icons on the desktop of the user who installed it in the first plac… Continue

What would you do if you were laid off tomorrow?

With the recession a reality now for most of us who struggle to hold down increasingly insecure jobs, I’ve often wondered what I would do if I got laid off tomorrow. I could probably go about a month before I start to struggle financially and I know that my parents and my in-laws would help us out with mortgage payments for another couple of months after that but I would still need to either get another job or give up my house eventually.

Of course it could also be the golden opportunity to try… Continue

A quick update to my "interesting times at work" blog post

I've now completed my two weeks as a booking in clerk in the gatehaouse at work. It has been really interesting. It is only the second time in my life I have used computers as part of my everyday job and I am loving it!

Today my boss called me at home to say he is extending the trial by 4 more weeks and would I be interested in continuing the role as he thinks I am doing a good job. This must be the first time in 27 years of working I have ever been told I am doing a good job by anyone, let alo… Continue

lifestreaming and life archiving

I am interested in finding a way to log on the Internet all my life’s experiences both automatically and manually.

By manually I mean the photos I take or the comments I make on facebook, twitter etc.

By automatically, I mean the conversations I have and the places I visit and the sights I see in my daily life that I would not ordinarily think are worthy of archiving.

Scanning in and archiving existing documents is easy. However, organising a lifetime’s worth of documents, which could be scho… Continue
