The Texas National Guard is ready to roll - this is definitely good to hear considering this recent picture of Galveston, TX taken just a short time ago from one of WeatherBug's own weather cams.

Here in South Mississippi (Close to the Alabama boarder) we have begun to see some flooding caused by rising water which is caused by the wind coming in from the Gulf of Mexico. Most low lying areas have started to flood, including a parking lot just down the street from my house. At this time the water is about knee deep and continues to rise. Soon it will infiltrate the stores in that parking lot, which were just recently rebuilt from Katrina. There has been no rain, it is just the wind that has caused this. Just shows how big Ike is and how, even if you are not in the direct path, it can cause problems. If you live anywhere on the coast from South TX to East MS, I suggest you take precautions now.
Defiantly keep us updated as long as you can. Either by responding this this thread or sending me pictures directly along with a local report - mhartley@weatherbug.com
Thanks for the latest on your area, we appreciate it.

Here are a few pictures I went and took around my neighborhood. Keep in mind we have not had a drop of rain from Ike yet, this is just what the wind has begun to cause.
