What made you decide to use Vista over XP (or any other OS)? Was Vista installed on your PC when you bought it or did you upgrade?
For me it was simple. I always want the latest OS software and so I installed Vista as soon as it was beta and went from there. Because of the hardware problems though I went back and forth to XP and Vista.
It was not until I realised that XP does not support 4GB RAM that I realised that I had no choice but to use Vista if I upgraded my laptop. I now have 4GB RAM and Vista and have not looked back since :)
Hi. When Windows Vista first came onto the market i was one of the first people to install it and one of the first people to uninstall it. Early Vista had issues, I found it hard to work with and anoying. I then went back to XP for a bit. Everything was fine.
When SP1 came out, i installed vista again and found that the os seemed to be alot better. (i couldnt put my finger on it... it just felt better more complete) From there ive upgraded again to Windows Vista x64.
Saying that, I only use Windows Vista on my main pc. I have several other computers some run xp, windows server and some run linux.

At first, I did not want to use Vista because of the many flaws everyone said it had. After I played with it at the store a bit, i was willing to give it a try, it just seemed like a more fun OS overall than all the other ones out there that I have gotten the opportunity to use. Like Mac OS X, I've never used it. But thats besides the point. It came on my laptop, and i heard after SP1 it really wasn't so bad, so I gave it a try, and I really like it. No OS is perfect though, there never will be a perfect one. I like Vista because it takes care of what I need done, simple as that. I use Vista Home Premium by the way. With SP1

cause I had xp, and my computer was compatible, and I wanted to play halo 2 and Crysis-dx10, best decision I have made in a long time : )
I found that vista had alot more stuff, like speech recognition, sidebar, lots of crazy cool stuff.
On 512MB RAM Vista is terrible, I have to admit that. I also tried Vista because it was supposed to be 'Vista capable' but the earlier versions of Vista were a nightmare to run on it. Since SP1 I have been rather impressed.
My notebook initially came with Home Basic and 512MB RAM :-(. I found a good price on RAM and upped the thing to 2GB which made it usable. A month later, I did an anytime upgrade to Home Premium and Vista and things have run quite smoothly on the notebook for the last year. However, shortly I will be using Vista much less now because the latest version of Ubuntu (8.10) runs so well on it that I can finally make the Linux switch. =)

I use vista because i hate apple :P, no i'm just joking i use it because im a hardcore gammer and 3 gigs of RAM is perfect for my rig with vista on it so... you can't say vista sucks...
I said this in the main forum for this group, but I felt i would elaborate here. I went to Vista because I wanted to switch to a 64 bit OS since I had just built a 64 bit capable machine. I took a look at XP 64 that a friend of mine was running and it seemed okay, but still a little clunky. Later on I found out why, for those who don't know, XP 64 isn't really XP, it's an adaption of Server 2003 which was made for regular consumers who were making the trek into 64 bit computing in order to take advantage of the RAM issue. Realizing that this was not for me, and also the fact that Vista was becoming more mainstream, I took a look at it. I found out that Vista's 64 bit version was made right alongside the 32 bit and had the same functionality. I was sold, and jumped right in. I have not been sorry since. I still find something new all the time. I've had a few minor crashes, but with a restart the system finds the error and fixes it.
I also wanted Vista for DX10. I am a gamer who loves eyecandy (although I don't get to as much as I used to). I just recently bought a DX10 card (1GB 9800 gt) and now my games all have new life breathed into them.
XP 64 was shockly bad for me, the driver support was terrible. I had to go to Vista 64 to get decent drivers + extra memory adressing. Was your's a "Designed for Vista" badged machine?
I guess it depends on your hardware; maybe HP laptops are fussy. I hadn't seen so many blue screens since installing Win98 Upgrade. :-( I keep hearing people having problems with Vista 32, but honestly, what can you do with 2GB of RAM these days anyway? ;-)
