Do you ever think at times that teen geeks are look over because of their age , I mean i personally always get a surprised look form older adults for running a site and web-show i guess you would call it. Teens are becoming bigger and bigger in the community and should be given more opportunities I mean I personally started at around 11 years old and now i'm 13 and run a 1,500+ sub youtube base and partnership etc. We as teens to me should be given more opportunities in the real world , over the internet theres many opportunities as i think the real world should be. If we have the knowledge to work etc I believe we should be given a chance more often. Recently I've been offered a IT job at the summer hire program for my ISP. Maybe its just me ? What do you all think ?
Well I see it happening more and more: opportunities for teen geeks are rising around the world. And it seems that as time goes by, younger and younger people are understand tech faster than people 10 years older!! I could only hope that opportunities will rise in the real world too.
Teens are often shoved aside due to their age. This was one of the reasons behind creating the Teen Podcasters Network, a network of Teen Media Productions. I think there is two ways to look at this issue.
1) Don't slack off because your a teen. I have seen several teens who feel that because they are a teen that they can do things at a lower tier. This is not the case because most of the time we aren't even considered seriously because we are just teens. You have to prove your worth.
2) Just because your a teen doesn't mean you should receive special attention. True - it's great that you have started to take advantage of opportunities at an early age, and you should be congratulated on that level. However, just because you happen to be 15 doesn't mean that TechCrunch should be covering you.
To add to this, I have talked with the CEO of one of the major new media content companies. Currently, this person has a very negative view of teens. The teens thought the CEO should treat them as stars.
I have noticed these two trends throughout my time in new media. I think the ultimate message here is: work hard and you will be rewarded.
Just a few words to think on. I do hope your IT job works out for you. I know I enjoy mine.
I agree, teens are beginning to be sought as advanced tech thinkers on the net...and hopefully more opportunities will arise for us before we grow older!
Im 12. I was standing in JB HiFi taking a look at the MacBook Pro. This woman comes in with her daughter and mistakes me for a person working at the store. Her daughter is interested in a MacBook and they start asking me questions (It was rather amusing actually). I didnt mind this so I assisted them and they end up purchasing one. And that wasnt the only time! I was at an Apple Store and the same thing happened. I was looking to buy an external Hard Drive and this guy came over to me a asked me to explain what the difference is between a GB and a TB (hahaha!) So I explained it to him, recommended a brand and he bought it.
Amazing! And people often mistake me for being older than I really am. (Like 15 or 14)
We should be given more chances to do what we want and make something of ourselves. Round here, there isn't any point in going for a job until you're 16, possibly 15.
But because I'm 14, I just get overlooked and adults would say I'm too young to handle a job.
Younger generations such as ourselves, understand more about the new technology. It's harder on us because we're living and growing up in a world that's the fastest developing in history.
