Is Sonic dead?

We all know the latest games are just cash-ins and are average at best. So do you think Sonic is dead? Do you think Sega can revive the franchise, and, if so, how?

I mean, for the newer generation it might be okay, but for those who have played the original games, the classics, then it might seem akward or weird.
