At first, I thought I was only replying to a Forum question, then when I hit Reply to This, it asked me to Join the Group. Now I know why I'm partly joining the group...I'm partly Senior-Citizen myself, what with my careless attitude!
My full name is Adorina Reyes, a 44-year old single parent of a nephew who has Cerebral Palsy, but still living and taking care of my 87-yr old father. My mother passed away at the age of 76 in 2004. Nobody told us we would miss her sudden departure so terribly. It left a gaping hole in our household configuration, so to speak. It left us all motherless.
We're actually 5 children with me being the youngest...and the only artist in the clan, except for my father who is still a budding painter and sculptor. With things I would dismiss as "junk" in an instant before, are now just beginning to strike me as "hmmm, maybe there's something there." In other words, although I consider myself to be more talented and gifted with art ie, my father has still some contributions that I would otherwise quickly forego. After all, his era belonged to WWII, where there were fewer people and houses around and more "boondocks", compared with mine where crazy traffic, pollution, over-population is a constant bane to City life. Needless to say, I live in Manila...or Quezon City, one of the most polluted cities in the world, in the Philippines, once an American Base in SEA, now one of the world's corrupt government systems.
Given all the problems we face in our daily lives, we tend to be more spiritual in our outlook and I for one would rather focus on the "good left standing". Sorry, I have to cut this short. Time for breakfast.
Hello all, and thanks for starting this group Taz! Maybe we should bring the ceiling up to 40? LOL!
Well, I'm a Viet-Nam veteran, that makes me pretty old (60), but I'm still way young at heart. I was geeking since I was 12 years old, got hooked on radios and electronics, maker and builder of all types of gadgets plus photography. In the 80's it was the Commodore 64, first "Mac experience" (lol) in 1989, first Windows/DOS PC in 1991 with an old Intel 286 I got from work for free, that's when I really got hooked into computers. I have been running 'high end' Macs full time in the Graphics industry since 1994, and PC's for home use since the 286. My "Mac experience" had not been a pleasant one, so I really carry a chip on my shoulder about that. ;o) I have been in plenty of battles all around this site about that, it's good venting/therapy. LOL!
I have a 43 foot shop in my basement filled with computers and electronics, I also service and sell PC's.
I have a great wife and two awesome kids, 25/27, married 34 years. (Isn't that some kind of milestone?)
More can be learned about me on my Geek page, if interested.
Hi, I'm Leigha Baer. 52 years old, mother of 4 grown children and grandmother to 7 amazing grandkids! (working in my pj's when I want to). I am interested in learning and sharing in this group. Thanks for having me.
I am Loren Singh, age 65, married, retired after 37 years of full-time work. Taught U.S. history, then worked in the computer and telecommunications industries as a technician, analyst, and writer/editor. Have 3 adult children, all finished with college and launched on their respective careers. Interests in amateur radio and both analog and digital electronics.
Gals hate to tell their age but... I'm 49 least for another couple months lol. I'm Mary I run a small computer repair shop in Sparta,TN and have been a geek since 1979. Guess that makes me a senior. Look forward to meeting you all and helping out if I can.
I'm Dawn, 50, of Calgary. Besides the nerdy stuff, the things that absorb me the most are genealogy and researching ancient societies. I'm thinking of going back to school (yes, at my age) to get a degree in anthropology but I've got to save up a few pennies first.
