Didn't think you would find a valentine this annoying holiday or simply didn't have time or money to prepare? Uh oh. What are ya gonna do?

Left over sweater felted accidentally in the wash? Freehand (meaning NO patterns used) cut it into heart shaped pieces. Hand or machine stitch to a piece of card (old thank you cards are perfect for this, where you can cover up the "Thank You"). You can also cut out the letters to the word "LOVE" and do the same thing. Should take even the biggest amateur an hour or so to complete. You may even use glue. To help the glue dry a little faster, use a hair dryer on low for some gentle heat.

Leftover "Occasion" cards? Use an exacto knife and cut out a freehand heart/s (thus cutting out the existing picture/s. Glue a piece of colorful fabric (thin, dark, colorful wool or construction paper that won't show through works best) onto the inside of the card, covering the words. Glue the card closed. This should take fifteen to twenty minutes.

Left over sweatshirts with holes in them? Cut it into a bunch of heart shapes and machine stitch them together in a chain. Drape the chain over a lamp shade or your sweet heart. Could take an hour or so to complete depending on your level of skill.

Cut three strips of leftover fabrics from shirts or jeans (your choice of thickness) and braid them. Cut out and extra strip (long enough to fit around a door knob). Attach to the top of the braid. Cut out heart shapes of felt or whatever else you have and stitch them on to it. Hang on the door knob.

Tea for two? Cut out paper hearts about the size of the tabs on single serve tea bags. Either glue it to the tab or replace the tab with it (make sure you have staples!). This is about a ten - twenty minute project.

Need a few more hearts around the room? Have empty picture frames? Cut out various heart shapes of fabric or paper and place them into the frames. If you don't have the "pic frame insert" to turn around to make a white background, use some black and what newspaper instead. This can look nice against vibrant colors of hearts. If you have some old plain, non patterned wrapping paper, that can work also.

I wish everyone a Happy Valentine's Day... or "Single Awareness Day" depending on your perception.
