How does everyone here feel about including graphic sexual content in non-erotic fiction? I'm referring to things like the bathtub scene in "Pet Sematary".
I myself don't do it, as I feel it frequently detracts from the story, and it just plain makes me feel awkward to do it. I don't particularly mind it in books I am reading, but I personally dislike it in audio fiction (I don't really know why though).
I often wonder the same thing. What is appropriate and who will read what is not? I find that the best thing is to write what's in your heard and then deal with the after mass later.
One should always write it as they see it and if some people in the audience don't like it, then tough. If you discover that you find it to be completely out of place, then you can always removie it before releasing the story to the public.
I just personally find it a little jarring to be listening to a really good sci-fi/action story and then suddenly have an episode that is clearly meant to be erotic, and then ultimately has no more effect on the story than a less graphic depiction would have.
I realize that part of this is to do with my own hang-ups, which is part of why I have no explicit sexual scenes in my stories. The other reason of course is that a scene like that has no place there. Having my protagonist go into graphic detail about a sexual encounter with his girlfriend has no place in a zombie apocalypse story.
