I'm using my new MacBook Pro 17 at work. I named it "lumbermac" and it's ok. It's running Leopard, which is mildly confusing since my personal iMac has Snow Leopard, but otherwise I'm happy with it. It's a partial duplicate of my Linux development workstation and runs all the same S/W or Mac equivalents. For example, my source code is easily synchronized with Subversion. I prefer a mouse over the touchpad, but that's mostly habit. My only real complaint is the placement of the keys in the lower left corner since the keyboard doesn't match my iMac keyboard.

I have heard that you can fit 6GB of RAM in the new MacBooks, I wonder what happens when you put in 8.

ohhhh I went to Best Buy yesterday and they had a Macbook there, I was thinking about stealing it but they have cameras and stuff, and a little security thing on the back so I don't think it would have worked. I like the touch pad though! It was a little confusing at first to use, but after using it for a couple minutes, it just seemed so much simpler.

Alex, the main thing to get used to is the window buttons (close, maximize, minimize) are on the left and you will need to get used to the dock. otherwise they are very easy to get used to. I used windows for all my life, until my parents got an iMac. I have loved it ever since. great gaming machine!

Alex, changing from Windows to Mac is easier than ever. I switched after more than 15 years of DOS and Windows. With virtual environments such as Parallels, and VM WARE, and Boot camp, you can slowly wean yourself off of WIndows. And quite honestly, Macs run Windows better than most PC, Windows machines do..

The new Macbooks are in many ways comparable to some the existing line of current Imacs. Apple is likely to update/rev the current I mac line in November. They are far superior to the last gen.
