Well, we may not be famous outside of the company that I work at, but many of the brilliant ideas that you see on television and in the movies are created by a vast army of geek girls in the place where I work! (We certainly are famous within the company).

Martha Stewart is something of a geek, even though she isnt as much of a techie type geek. She is a MacGyver when it comes to crafts. (Doesnt being able to go to a primitive forest with only basic tools and build a modern palace out of foliage count for anything)? (Okay this is part tongue in cheek....lol)

I dont know if women who play geeks or are on geeky shows count - Billy Piper was completely surprised by all the fuss grown men were making over the Daleks. Summer Glau has been in Firefly, The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and a running joke in XKCD, but, personally, is she a geek?

I mean, there should be some geek creds, here - like macho Mr. action star Vin Diesel is a geek - a D&D geek no less. Similar standards should be given for famous geek girls.

The name that comes to my mind is Ursula LeGuin [sp?] - who is the first female name I think of when I think of scifi.
