Crafty marketing. Verizon doesn't mention the iPhone, but you know what they are talking about. They might be late to the cool phone party, but they are bring the hot chicks and the keg!

Google secretly crafts Android codename "cupcake," fixes and features aplenty
by Chris Ziegler, posted Dec 18th 2008 at 4:34PM

Okay, so right here: this is where Android starts to get awesome. The platform is being hacked and developed at a blistering pace that closed operating systems can only dream of, and to top it all off, Google's now gifted the world with a bunch of changes it had been developing in secrecy in a private branch called "cupcake." Why "cupcake," you ask? We're not sure, but given the list of fixes and additions we're seeing here, we can only assume it has something to do with how tasty it's going to be once it gets rolled into a shipping firmware. For starters, it rolls in circa-November WebKit code and significantly boosts browsing performance, fixes a novel's worth of issues with the email app, and -- wait for it -- adds support for stereo Bluetooth. Of course, we're at the mercy of T-Mobile and HTC for getting this onto retail G1s, so it really makes a strong case for picking up a Dev Phone 1, doesn't it?

Extended G1 battery life anyone?

Posted on 16 January 2009 by Shawn Brown

Some of you are having a really problem fighting the battery life of your T-Mobile G1. Do far the rumors that T-Mobile is shipping extended life batteries out is seeming to by just a myth. There are solutions but you have to ask yourself, how much am I willing to give for a device that lasts a little longer?

Power users and those who game on their T-Mobile G1 will need to pick up this extended life battery from Seidio. This battery does make your device a lot thicker than it is normally, but hey its only $55 and your phone wont need a charge as often. The battery is so big that a back cover is needed just to house it.

Take a look at the picture for a moment and try to get a good realization of just how large this makes your handset before ordering, you may be surprised. The standard battery is 1150mAh, but this monster backs 2600mAh! At least now you can bring down even the largest person from across the room with one good throw of your handset. Do you feel this extra bulk is worth it?

Hello-

Just got mine on Wed. Tech support said it could take up to 24hrs for

activation. Waited 2 days, still didn't work.

Called tech support again. I didn't put in my old sim card! Dah!!!

Works fine. Looking forward to using it!

I don't have one either. Kind of pointless since AT&T is the only company with 3G where I live (although the phone still would be nice regardless). Hopefully there will be a way to use other networks soon, or more companies will jump on-board.
