i use a 23" apple cinema display, the more screen real-estate the better. As ti where to put the PC and i am assuming by this you mean the case or tower, i think on the floor as if you have good carpet and floors it will reduce the vibration and noise.

I use a 52" 1080P LCD Display. It's a Samsung LNA750. And since I use a laptop exclusively, I have my MacBook Pro 17" HD set next to my chair on a C-table. I type with my Apple Aluminum Bluetooth Keyboard on my lap, and I use an Apple Bluetooth Mighty Mouse to navigate the screen.

That would be an amazing setup..... for now, I have to stick with my Mac mini and 17" LG Flatron. Saving up money so I can upgrade. :D

19" 1440X900, just about perfect for me.
The comp sits on the floor... while we do have several cats here... it's all about going in with some canned air every other month or so and giving everything a good dusting. But, PC on the floor is because of desktop real estate... it was either the TV or the computer in the floor... computer lost the toss.

My main computer is a 24" iMac (Macintosh). I absolutely love all that desktop space.

I recently hooked up a 19" widescreen LCD monitor as a second screen...

It's really handy for many different things.

I'm looking into getting an iMac to replace my Mac mini... I've been saving up, but I just can't help myself from buying other technology!

My 2 cents:

Get the biggest you can afford. At the time, I could only do a 20" Cinema Display which is running @ 1680 x 1050. I also had a second LCD for a while, just a basic 1024 x 768, but I gave that up in an attempt to build my own Cintiq. But that is another topic for another time. If I could I would love to have the 30" Cinema Display, but....

As for positioning your main CPU, aka tower, never directly on the floor. Too much potential for shocking your delicate internals. Easy fix, a 1/2 inch piece of plywood. Hell, there are casters and stands that can be bought for cheap that allow you to "stand" your system that eliminates any harmful potential.
And for those who want to rant saying that I am full of it, I preemptively call BS. I seriously doubt that you have dealt with the leftovers of static damage.

Anywho, try different configurations with the space that you have. I myself have rearranged my living room, where I have my setup, at least 6 different unique ways. And I am now onto thinking about a seventh.

Heck, get the free download of Google SketchUp and try out some layouts. Works for me and my sanity.

Good luck!!
