Hey Mouse, I'm a noob here, but I have tuned into GR and so far it's goin' great. I do agree though that there probably is a bit too much of Spears on here, but, I guess ya gotta cater to all styles, considering the diverse crowd that are listening to GR.
I have a wide variety of music myself, ranging from the sixties-seventies-eighties-noughties and now. I do prefer Classic Rock - from AC/DC to Led Zep to Def Lepard, Queen, Stevie Vai, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Chris Isaak, etc etc etc. I have the Billboard Top 100 songs for every year from 1965 to 1999, and still adding more.
Has Chris (Pirillo) thought about doing a multi-channel radio for different styles of music? That would be cool.
And has anyone made up a widget for GR to put on our pages, so we don't have to have a separate TAB open in our browsers?
From Celtic to punk (and Celtic punk!), and lots of things that have been around long enough to have a little tarnish to them -- acoustic blues, ragtime, big band, '20s jazz. I love the "keep it simple" aesthetic of quite a bit of indie music (whatever that means) out there, too, but it's hard to pin down a formula that would define why I like what I like. Like anyone, I guess I just dig what fits the moment. My Last.fm profile tells me that my top 10 most-listened to bands/performers are:
The Pogues
The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem
The Magnetic Fields
Robyn Hitchcock
The Jesus and Mary Chain
Oscar Brand
Fugazi
Big Black
Dean Martin
Billy Bragg
But then it's not uncommon to find me listening to something like Made Out of Babies one minute and Syd Barrett the next!
Lots of : Funk old school/new school/new funk & Acid Jazz & Blue Note
