Title says it all: "What is the best console in the history of consoles?"

I want to know your opinion, they're several choices out there, all consoles of course have their ups and downs, but which one struck you as being the best one ever? Did a certain console have a more defining experience than any other?

For me, I believe that the Sega Dreamcast was one of the greatest consoles ever. It was way ahead of it's time and should it have been introduced in the market against the Xbox 360 and PS3 (of course with improved graphics) I believe it would have taken a large market share.

You can tell today that consoles have been heavily influenced by the Dreamcast with it's Online Capabilities, and of course you can see the influence in the Xbox and Xbox 360's controllers. What most people don't know is that the Dreamcast was also the first console with motion controls, if you purchased the fishing rod for the console you would know that the fishing rod could be used on several different games and had accelerometers inside. Fishing Rod + Crazy Taxi = a Workout.

What's your opinion?

I had played/owned loads of different consoles from the original Atari to the various Nintendo and Sega incarnations but the Playstation is the one that caused me to stay up through the night gaming. I got into the more games at that time than with anything prior to it. I would lose hour after hour playing the likes of Tomb raider and FF7. I am not knocking the other consoles but when you ask for one that stands out for me it has to be that one.
I agree that the Dreamcast was way ahead of it's time, in fact I still have one. The Wii, 360 and PS2/3 are all great in their own way and the PSP does not always get the credit it deserves but as I said the one that made most impact for me was the first Playstation.

I would have to say PS2 if for no other reason than its huge number of titles... Although I also have a Wii which I am quickly falling in love with...

My favorite would have to be the
SNES. I still play this all most
every day and it never gets old.

The Sega Master System should've pwned the NES as it had superior hardware specs as well as a very exciting mascot in the name of Sonic the Hedgehog. There was a good library of games for it too.

As for the greatest console of all time...entirely subjective and depends on whether you liked the games library. There is no definite answer; but for me it was the Sega Megadrive - as the sonic games, streets of rage 2, etc gave me hours of fun back in the early nineties.

I think it was the NES. It practically started it all and made gaming what it is. It's the god-father of consoles.

And the N64 cause it graphics were out of the world at the time. Yeah, I'm a Nintendo person, but I like Sony to :D

Hands down, the NES. No contest.

I think I would have to say NES because of it's place in console history....but the one I have personally played the most would be a toss up between PS2 and Xbox 360.

Consoles I currently have hooked up - Xbox 360, PS2, PS3, Wii, N64, Xbox..I just packed up my Gamcube about a week back since you can play everything from in on the Wii with no issues. I also still use GBA SP, DS Lite and PSP - haven't pulled the GB Color out in forever.

The PS2 is arguably the most successful console of all time.

I think it'd be a close call between the playstation 2 and Super Nintendo. PS2 has lasted the longest out of all the consoles undoubtedly, and Super Nintendo was just a great console overall. Super Nintendo had great games too, so it's a really hard choice to make. The Xbox 360 has also held up to the test of time, beating the latest consoles when it comes to game choice and online play.

I'd have to go with SNES just because of the Nostalgia. NES also holds a place in my heart, but it had it's flaws.

I would say that it is the SNES.
