To copperstone39... this is not a fault with your fans running after you turn the pc off... it is a safety feature of your power supply unit.
Your power supply unit is keeping the fans going for 2 or 3 minutes in order to cool the cpu down sufficiently to prevent damage to it in case you were doing some realy intensive cpu activity before you turned your machine off. Mine does the same. It pays to read the manual ;o) lol

Coppertone,
We need more system info to make an uneducated guess. Have you tried sticking only 1 stick of ram in to start with? Check all your connections...thrice.

I just put together a new system and for some reason when I select shut down everything shuts down except the cpu and the system fans. The system's on/off power button will shut down everything except the fans also. To turn them off I have to physically turn the power off using the power switch on the power supply. I have read about others who have
had the same problem, but no reply's with solutions. If anyone has had this problem and knows of a fix please let me know.
This is a re-post from the main page forum section I did get some good advice, but I thought I would bring my situation to you guys.

My first computer was a custom built that my dad made for me back in '98. Had Windows 95, and was actually blazing fast for it's time.

I've also put custom parts in my Acer, the only thing that's stock is the hard drive and the power supply.
