Acer did have some good products along the line. I recently had to switch to (HP) Compaq because I had a few issues with the motherboard on mine (The Logicord if i spelled that correctly) One problem i DID have with acer, is that they gave me no proof of manufacturer warranty, and they don't have a very good support line either. I went on their website to try and find a "chat" session with a tech i could talk to about my issue (because at the time i didn't know what to do, and still wouldn't if i had my product) Maybe it was the way i explained it, but they told me i had a driver issue when i had a hardware issue. Of course not being there really makes it alot harder to understand the problem. This was through E-mail only, and chat in my opinion is so much better since its instant. I did not try calling the company because I had made so many more phone calls already and other companies had trouble understanding me already.

I won't get TOO indepth with this, but thats the only problem I had with acer, is that they gave me no proof of company warranty and had crappy support. There is a longer story to it, but thats for another day. I do enjoy the fact, that Acer has really come into the new world of technology now. On the last model i saw from them (one of the newest, no exact name that i could remember, aspire (insert number here) of course. Already had an HDMI out and DVI out too. I'm not sure if it has VGA too, i didn't look close enough. It had lots of USB 2.0 ports and i think one firewire 400 port. Of course none of these matches up the Mac computers. But again, thats for another rant.

Thanks for reading my long confusing blogs! Let me know if you need a bit of "translation" or more details. See ya!

The newest Acers look simply beautiful. I was a year too late before the remodel. They have a lot of cool features, Empowering Technology is nice, and too many USB ports. And I thought you could never have too many! One thing I don't like about my computer is the fact that Acer insisted on providing their own motherboard, that pi**ed me off when I was out processor shopping, trust me.

interesting - Acer's support is one of the reasons I stayed with them for my next laptop purchase. My first one had a HD crash about 3 months after I bought it, and the guy at the support center (in Temple, TX, not far from me at all) was super nice (and spoke american english!!) and I got a new HD in 2 days flat, after my call. I was impressed.

They do make their computers for the average users, or, as I like to call them, idiots. No offense to anyone here. I spent hours searching for a compatible processor because Acer just had to have their own mobo.

so their processor support is somewhat limited? how so?

Ah well, my Acer Aspire T650 had a hard drive failure in 2007. So I called them up, in the peak times, but there wasn't ANY waiting queue, which was nice. I could speak to a human being within a minute.

I told them my issue, and they first tried to troubleshoot it by handing me a special key string on the keyboard, that I had to press. A hidden partition on the hard drive would then be woken up out of it's sleep, and boot up. But since the hard drive died, it did not boot properly.

They waited untill I got back again; they had a special system, where they could take other calls when there was no audio activity at the side of the customer. When I then pressed #, the person at the end of the Acer support center got a message on it's computer screen, saying that the customer wanted to get back to the conversation. The Acer support person could then transfer the current call to someone else, which is nice.

So, when I got back, I told them what was going on, giving them an error code on my screen. He typed it into his computer, and he immediately offered me the option to send the computer - without any costs - to the Acer support center in Germany. He made a label with a QR-code in PDF format for me, and sent it straight to my e-mail address.

He sent me a box with styrofoam to send the computer to Germany. I got my computer back within a week, with a fresh, new, not-loud hard drive with the original software. They backed up my documents, data and files to a DVD, which came with the computer in the box.

I'm right now using my Acer Aspire T650 to type this - it's a great computer, and I think that I will use this computer for another 8 years, before I have lost most of the love for this great piece of machinery.

Props to Acer Support in the Netherlands!

Indeed, that's why I got to love Acer. I don't like some of their pre-installed stuff though, but hey - it can always be worse: ever seen Sony VAIO's pre-installed crapware?

The most I have ever seen on one, 'clean', new laptop...
