10. Superman returns
I grew up watching superman back in the eighties and the first three superman films felt not like films but an event. The Recognisable heroic theme tune, Christopher Reeve, general Zod etc, there was no other superhero at the time that could match the man in the blue tights. With Lois and ClarK and Smallville series to draw upon i felt there was much potential and a lot of history, themes, characters to draw upon in to make Superman returns. Instead they made a lukewarm love story and over used CGI. Even a boat in the ocean was graphically rendered as well as the bloody ocean itself!.
9. Batman and Robin
The less said about this the better!
8. Rocky V
The first two were pretty good, the next two entertaining at best but why they made this rushed, poor excuse for a story i don't know. at least they didn't end the series on it. In 2008, Sylvester Stallone told BBC interviewer Jonathan Ross that if asked to rate the Rocky V himself, he would give it a zero. Sounds about right to me.
7. Fantastic Four
I could put in other comic adaptions such as catwoman, Hulk, daredevil but what disappointed me was that they had enough material to develop each of the characters as xmen did and instead blew the whole thing up in our faces. I used to enjoy the cartoons after coming home from primary school, but i didn't even bother watching the sequel.
6. Godzilla
They made it farcical
At the 1998 Golden Raspberry Awards, the film was nominated for five Razzies, including Worst Picture, Worst Director and Worst Screenplay. It took home two overall for Maria Pitillo as Worst Supporting Actress and for the film as Worst Remake or Sequel.
5. The Da Vinci Code
The book was amazing, one of the few books i read that year, and yet the film was sloppy and it had Tom Hanks and Ian Mckellen . It went belly up to say the least and what was Tom Hanks thinking about that hair style!
4. Alexander
One of the most historic figures in history, portrayed in one of the most sucking films of history. It had epic potential but was Epic Fail! Even its director Oliver Stone apologised for this garbage of a movie.
3 Dragonball evolution..
Maybe because its more recent thats why its number three or that i am a huge fan of the anime series, but this could have been what the new 'Star Trek' will be. Something to grab new audiences as well as the already huge fan base. Instead it will probably have the opposite effect.
2 Matrix Revolutions
Both films sucked reloaded less so, revolutions in the main. They were victims of the success of the first movie. I can't even remember anything storywise about the 3rd film
1. Star wars episode 1
Much like the superman returns as mentioned earlier, i grew up watching star wars trilogy, with the star wars board game yeah thats right and then the computer games such as x wing, heck i even had a star wars game watch. It made a significance on me as my grandfather passed away when the films premiered on tv.
The gap between the new film was like over a decade, the hype was immense, the expectation was magnanamous and anticipation was talk of the classrooms, between father/ sons, uncles/ nephews, neighbours and strangers. The fact that technology had advanced at that time added to the build up and possibilities. The potential story of darth vaders past ensured restless nights, insomnia, and many stories and books to be written. The conventions had a new life a new hope and guaranteed further films to be developed and.. and ...and then george lucas unleashed Jar Jar Binks!
