With sure, very annoying.

It could be a problem with the connection, or the version of the software being used by either party.

That's right it could be her machine that is the problem. Have her do "Help/About". Yahoo discontinued support for the Messenger that they originally came out with for Vista after they released version 9.0.0.2034

I get that too in MSN and it's damn annoying. Sometimes I actually switch to e-mail when it happens, since yahoo or msn (either way) can become to damn unreliable sometimes. I've yet to come across a resolution :/
Good luck

I am surprise to hear this. I have been using Yahoo Messenger for years and I have never had one problem.

Have you run a scan to check for a virus?

I'm using Live msgr (msn) and am currently in the process of fighting some malware with my bare hands. Not really, I'm using some programs and advice from a security/anti-malware forum. But still, I think I'm winning against this malware son of a ... hello!

I do not know if this will help, but Yahoo just released a new version: Yahoo! Messenger 9.0.0.2112 specifically for Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista/XP64/Vista64. Unfortunately I could not find out what bugs were fixed other than it was just released today 13Jan2009.
