We know that today peace cannot be found in any developed country, we are always plagued by themes such as double standards, injustices, wars and bad politics. The recent post by devil, http://geeks.pirillo.com/forum/topics/is-there-a-perfect-country?id.... Asks this question

Looking at America with their new president and his new visions for world peace that he cannot implement because he has to appease members that still live in the past whom cannot accept change.

Looking at my country (UK) there have been smears and slurs and dishonest dealings of members of parliament almost on a monthly basis, whether they have used taxpayers money on extravagant unnecessities second or third homes even charging for Porn...( yes that has happened recently) or the bad decisions that helped the economic downturn.

My point is that no country is perfect, i could talk about any single country and the faults and problems with its governance. Accepting the fact that these problems will affect some of us more than others, but ultimately they are there and have been there for ever it seems , i have reached a conclusion.

You have to live on a desert island to get away from these problems!

Carrying out some research mainly on the bbc i came across some tribes.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/tribe/tribes/penan/index.shtml

A quotation is;
"The Penan are a gentle and softly spoken people with a highly egalitarian society and little gender division. There's a headman, and respect is given to elders but there is no real hierarchy, just a strong communal bond, which manifests itself in a meticulous process of sharing. Nomadic Penan move in groups of up to 40 people, but groups form and split regularly as sago palm flour and game is sought from different areas in their territory (roughly 100 sq miles on average)."

Now there are many tribes like this dotted all over the world, all literally from desert islands or faraway places and i noticed one thing in common,
They all live without computers! Ok i meant modern technology.

So my warped conclusion is that one must give up technology, and worldly possessions and live a basic life such as the Penan above, where harmony not greed drives the society.

So this is the question i pose to you, would you give up technology, phones, internet, electricity etc all for peace?

It would not be possible to go back to a previous state of awareness. The four states of knowledge as Colin Powell eloquently described them are unconscious incompetence, concious incompetence, concious competence and unconscious competence. Learning cannot unoccur. Our technology allows us to know of our corrupted leaders and flawed systems. A bad craftsman blames his tools.

Indeed, because a man of our culture can never truly say he is happy with his lot, a basic impetus is realised. "Sure I'm happy", he thinks. "But a new Ferrari would really liven things up!" And so it goes. Behaviour evolved to keep us alive now keeps us greedy. Opportunities aren't presented to be missed.

Peace is a perfect weapon, so fearsome and destructive that none would dare use it. Fear of consequence binds the books of Law. Our technologies march onwards towards this dreadnought. It will come, on that day when our reason has bounded beyond what our eyes and ears can tell us. We will become our ability to express ideas.

i agree with you!

I appreciate your interesting post Shtanto, but i am not inferring de-evolution of society, or un-occurrence of learning. The underlying thing i am hinting is that greed has been the major factor that corrupts societies of any country, and a facet of greed are the materialistic possessions in geekdom that translates into technology!
Technology will also result in the destruction of man.

Most of the people on here do not remember a day without a computer or some form of technology. I do and believe me, things were much simpler then. If I thought for one minute that giving up my computer would bring world peace, I would ditch it in a heartbeat.

However, once a ball starts to roll, it will not stop until it loses it energy or something gets in it's way.
I fear that times will never get better as there are too many players in the universal game of life.

Countries and the people in them are too selfish to give up anything that they have acquired. Be it possessions, status, just to name two.

All presidents come into office with the goal of trying to help create world peace. World peace will come when all societies are longer a part of this earth. Sorry but that ball will not stop rolling. It is only going to gain speed.

True, but the question given to me from you, I would answer no :(
Why? Because technology is awesome!
Why are we on this site again?
Answer that yourself :)

Sassy, excellent reply, i must say that technology exposes our mistakes better and in today's world is reported faster and better, whereas in the past events were swept under the carpet. The famous ripper of London be it Jack or Jacqueline.. would have been caught earlier if forensics and DNA were available in that day and time. I agree there are more than one players in the disorder of our planet.

Paul T good point, i would also say no because of the selfish person in me, although i feel that even in the most basic of human existence there existed the notion of greed, jealousy and corruption with territories, and competition for land etc. 'My cave is bigger than yours'. Technology exposes our problems and brings events to our attention faster.

No, it would not do any good. Humankind is competitive by nature. It would not solve anything I am sure we would just figure out something else to argue about. I do not recall any of the prior wars being fought over technologies. Wars have been fought over land, religion, ideals etc etc etc. not technology.

Some can argue that technology has facilitated war, the conflict of thinking between America and Iran is about nuclear technology, is it not?

It has not started a war yet. I stated that none of the prior wars. In the future who knows we may have wars over who's AI is stronger than the other!!!
