So while waiting for my macbook pro, i decided to drag one of the old laptops out from the dusty shelf. I put a wireless card in the laptop and connected to my wireless Livebox. The Laptop says "connected to livebox - excellent". But I dont have internet connection what do you suggest
Are all of the network settings right? When I take my laptop to friends houses, I usually find I can connect to their wifi but don't get the internet. I then realize that I have my static ip address assigned to it for use with my home network.

Is this a Windows Laptop or Mac? In Windows you can go to a Command Prompt and verify that you are getting a TCP/IP Address by typing "IPCONFIG /ALL". If it comes back and tells you that the TCP/IP address is a 169.x.x.x number then you have an APIPA address (automatic number assigned internally by your Windows OS).
Your Router may have MAC Address filtering turned on and you will have to add the MAC Address o your Laptop to the approved list.

It sounds like your PC is not recognizing the Wireless Card. Go into Device Manager and if you have any Question Marks or Exclamation Points in the network Area then you will need to install the Software & drivers for the card into the laptop
