What's the geekiest thing you do or the oddest piece of tech hardware you bring with you when heading to the great outdoors?
I’m off to go camping and my checklist includes my little laptop with inverter, a couple of GPS’s, a couple of laser pointers, a DVD player, my robot telescope, etc. You know, all the usual stuff.

I've said in other Discussions that I always have my 8 GB Flash Drive in my pocket. My BlackBerry has tunes on it. Of course I have my laptop. My laptop bag is just like one of those rolling suitcases. I have so many things in it that I just stopped using one of those shoulder bags.
I forgot about the flash drive, like you I always have at least one with me. And yes, I'll be in the middle of the desert with a flash drive and my hacked Windows Mobile phone.
If/When I start kayaking again, I'll probably bring my Pentax Optio W20, Cell Phone in a water tight bag (in Autistic Mode or OFF), waterproof matches, flare(s), single burner "stove", tent or bivouac, food and water skin... yeah... oh and a map I have presealed in laminate.
Ah yes, heading out onto the water. That is another opportunity for serious geekdom. For me on my boat its a couple sonars / fish finders, GPS chart plotter, a long and short range radio and most recently a SPOT satellite messenger for when I head off shore.
