Windows 7 = 25mb Vista = 4Gb

Unhappy with Vista? Can’t wait for Microsoft to release Windows 7 to get rid of it? Today is your lucky day because a preview build of Windows 7 has already been leaked. That is, if Microsoft hasn’t used its legal might to remove any trace of it.

An intrepid Neowin.net user went so far as to post a review of M1 (Milestone 1) build version 6.1.6519.1 which was deleted for unknown reasons by the poster.

However, Istartedsomething got hold of the cached version of the post which was added by the site administrator after the original was removed. Could this be the Microsoft machine at work? Decide for yourself.

Nevertheless, Windows 7 is far from finished as this early build is worse than Vista in many ways but is better in one very important way. Keep in mind this is a very early preview release.

Video card and SATA drive support is almost non-existent and it seems that current Vista drivers do not work on it, hopefully this will be fixed with time, or not and we’ll have to buy new hardware all over again. It will probably be fixed.

The interface is (for now) Vista all over again but it does appear to be more responsive and faster than Vista using under 500MB of memory after boot. Compare that with Vista which can use up to 1GB after boot. This could be attributed to the fact that the operating system is not yet feature complete and usage could increase in future builds.

There is also a new boot screen as well as new versions of Calculator, Paint, and Wordpad. About time but since I have not observed the new apps for myself, I cannot comment on them but I’m not expecting anything revolutionary.

That’s about it for now, it shows promise, especially if Microsoft manages to keep memory usage around the 500MB mark.

I just watched a thing on YouTube showing the demo of Windows 7. It looks pretty cool.

I like how they have all of the icons in the taskbar, but it's VERY Mac OS X like. I'm looking forward to using it though, especially if it only uses 25 mb?!

I CAN NOT BELIEVE IT HAS 25 MB

THAT WOULD MEAN THAT IT DOES NOT HAVE ANY PICTURES OR ICONS OR SOUNDS

Windows 7 is not 25MB. I have Windows 7 in 32 and 64bit, and 32bit is 2.74GB on disk and 64bit is 3.35GB on disk. Both are build 6801. I have yet to install them, waiting for my other hard drive to come in to install them on.

Since they haven't enhanced the UI, it does soft of feel like Vista SP2 or what Vista should have been all along. Once they create new features or release those features to testers, than it will more feel and look like Windows 7.

25MB? Bull!

Finally a half decent looking network thing. The Vista one doesn't even tell you the speed without going into task manager or going through all that network crap.

I believe that the 25 mb is for the core code only. Not including The graphics/ media/ installed software etc...

Where can I get this leaked version of Windows 7? (Not for piracy, just to play around with)

To be 100% honest, I'm not sure that I like the look of the toolbar. That's just my own opinion though.
