Have you checked your RAM? This is probably the most common cause of freezes on nearly any computer.

It shouldn't freeze but I think mint is not the best OS anyway as from my personal experience had a hard time with installing drivers for certain hardware try ubuntu if you already haven't tried it yet.

bad hardware, prolly hdd or ram

possibly, maybe, most likely if it does that with every os then yes but if it just occurs when mint is installed then probably just a software/driver issue

I landed here because my linux mint is "freezing" up too. it happens when I stream video or audio from the net. or if I play video or audio locally. I suspected a driver, but I now believe its a RAM issue... I was getting BSOD when I had XP on this box, It seems when I dig in with memory hog apps it crashes....

Negative, WUBI is a Windows executable type of dealio... You can get GNU/Linux to run BEAUTIFULLY under Fusion though...

What kind of Mac are you running GNU/Linux on? I've found that running Ubuntu 9.10 on this computer (MacBook Pro 5.2) over heats the holy-sh*t out of it. I dare not run it for more than about 15-20 minute between shut-downs. The issue I have is due to driver support, could possibly be the same issue for Mint, considering it's a derivative of Ubuntu (derived from Debian). I'll look into it myself, if you have the same hardware, we can compare notes, message me with your Mac's stats.
