I was just wondering what the numbers look like for people that have switched from various platforms. What made you switch? Has anyone switched from Mac to another platform?

For me I used Windows most of my life until 4 years ago. A friend of mine showed me Linux (Ubuntu) and there were some things about it that I liked a lot better than Windows. It still wasn't perfect but it made me open to new platforms.

I then took a job a year later at a company that used only Macs where I was forced to use them. I wasn't very open to the Apple platform since the last Mac I had used was a painful experience, but after a few weeks I grew to love them and eventually decided to switch completely over.

Please no Mac vs. PC wars. We don't need another one of those.

I have been with windows scince DOS, WIN3.1 Etc. I have also used Ubuntu,Fedora and Rock Linux. It has taught me to appreciate all formats and while some things will work on one OS, might not work on another, but they all have some great points and bad, but as I am studying Software Development at C.I.T, I can certainly say that it takes dedication and a bit of luck to get a good OS out there, after all, you wouldnt be using it, would you ;)

I've been a regular Windows User since 3.1. Went from 3.1 to 98, XP, and to Vista. Vista was running a little slow, didn't like the memory management, and worst of all, I couldn't personalize it as well as I could previous Windows versions. All this made me finally give Ubuntu a try, so I dual booted for a while, and got so used to Linux I don't even really use the Vista partition anymore for anything but storage. That was about two years ago I think, or just under. I now use several Linux distributions including BSD via emulation.

Been a great couple of years, all thanks to Vista. :D

Growing up we had a Windows 95 PC then moved onto 98, ME, XP and then Vista for about a year and then moved over to a Unibody MacBook and have never looked back.

Reason for changing? Vista (and also the need for a small, portable laptop)

DOS, BASIC, Mac, Windows, Linux. There's no point in listing the hundreds of distributions, you get the picture.

I've started with Win 3.11 / Win 95 and some DOS on a 486-DX2-PC.
Moved on through 98, NT, ME (worst windows system ever), win 2000, win xp
Now I am mainly using Ubuntu (/Linux) and just have XP / Vista beside it and Win7 in a virtual machine.
i also have a Mac Mini running OS X of course :)

I was a Mac guy until the late 1990's, but I made the "switch" to Windows so that I could a) play Rainbow Six and other computer games, b) because I was interested in building my own computers and c) because many of the programs I was interested in using were on the PC.

I've used Macs as well, but I'm still more of a Windows guy. I've run a few operating systems on Red Hat and Slackware, but never got too much into it.
