Vista Sound Popping 32bit

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-NR180E and some days the audio just starts popping. It pops if I have headphones in and whatever application I'm using. I've reinstalled the drivers many times which temporarily fixes it but then randomly it comes back. It also seems that if I restart my computer it goes away. I've heard that people who upgraded to 64bit no longer had the problem while they did on 32 bit so I'm hoping that is the only reason since I'm planning to upgrade to 64bit Windows 7 when it is released.
