Okay, so my Windows completely crashed the other day and then I remembered I have a Ubuntu Install CD. So I installed Ubuntu and to my surprise I can not cannot connect to my wireless network in my house. It worked fine on Windows but on Ubuntu I can not connect. How come?
I have Atheros 802.11 b/g wireless-LAN inside of the laptop.
The laptop model is a Toshiba L305-S5902. Keep in mind that I am new to Ubuntu. So simple steps in order to fix this problem would be pretty nice.
If your wireless router has a wpa2 key then it won't work.. I ran into this problem a few times when I started with ubuntu myself. Although it can and will work with regular wpa!! Try it out.
Well, first of all you should temporarily move your computer to a landline. Preferably connect it to the router instead of the modem, it makes it easier for the computer to connect.
Next, install "wine" with the "add remove" option (this is a windows "emulator"). just go to applications and "add remove".
After installing wine install "ndiswrapper". This program supports many wireless drivers.
Now you should put in your driver CD, or just download the driver for your wireless card.
Open ndiswrapper and search around the driver, looking for the right file that will install.
I recommend that you check up some "how to's" in the internet. They helped me a lot.
So, this is all i can help you with!
