Hope nobody takes this offensively, these are just some of the reasons I think people shouldn't play music automatically on their profiles. I know many of you are going to anyway and that's cool, this is just my opinion. B-) Mush Lub.

1: Not everyone on the planet, indeed not even all of your friends share your personal taste in music.

2: Even if everyone did share your taste in music, they would open their own media player to hear it if that's what they wanted to do.

3: If you really absolutely must have autoplaying music on your profile, don't use a player that I have to scroll down and search your page to find, and don't use one that doesn't have a very clear "stop" button.

4: If I am browsing profiles and happen to also be listening to my own music, YOUR music playing a few seconds after I open your page is excruciatingly annoying and sometimes confuses me for a minute before I realize it's just some inconsiderate person's profile, and not my media player glitching.

5: If I have more than one profile open, as I often do, it can sometimes be hard to tell where the music is coming from. This makes it more difficult to shut off which leads me to #6

6: Say I'm browsing profiles at work and I happen across a profile with autoplaying music halfway down the page and I don't notice until its' already half-way into the lyric about someone's milkshake that it's being blared to my whole office at about 6,000 decibels.

7: I often watch movies and TV online.... legally, of course.... and sometimes the movie is very quiet, and I have to turn my volume up. Or I have my volume up anyway, which I ofen do, and I had simply turned down the volume on the player. Then your profile starts playing a maximum volume, something to the tune of "SKEET SKEET SKEET SKEET" both shattering my eardrums and annoying my roommate or coworkers.

8: With internet such as mine, which is supposed to be around 1.5 mbps, but is really about 300 kbps most days, even if I go and pause your music, it still preloads and significantly slows my internet while it's doing so.

9: It's perfectly ok to have music on your profile. But if we want to listen to it, we'll be the ones to hit play.

10: The final reason not to have autoplaying music on your profile: Because I said so. :-P

If anyone has anything else to add including reasons why I'm wrong, please say so in the replies. :-)

Zzoren; please do not troll here. Its just not conducive for a friendly environment.

And btw...I think the OP makes some good points.

No, it wasn't. Just because being assaulted by terrible music on her profile which I politely let her know was somewhat annoying made me come up with the idea to post this thread doesn't mean it's an ATTACK on juliafish. I never once mentioned her and was never overly rude to her. I have no idea who she is. Stop trolling and go away unless you have something to contribute.

I'd also appreciate it if you would stop calling me an ass.

And thank you for not feeding the trolls, Persian.

Actually, you haven't seen me, and I'm not part of any "kind". Go away now, you're becoming irritating.

I didn't make any rules, I made some suggestions, now stop trolling me or be reported. Go bother someone else.

I agree, it is annoying to visit a site and have the music on autoplay.

I don't care what this says. There is Freedom of Individuality on this Site. I have my music autoplaying as well. If you don't want to hear music autoplaying you shouldn't be surfing the Internet where your Browser would succumb to such things. Yeah Right.

No need to take offense mate, I didn't mean for this to be an insult to people who do have music playing, but if my way of expressing myself was randomly blaring music in people's ears, they'd probably ask me to stop, don't you think?
Anyway no need to be angry, this is just my opinion.

This is interesting.

Reason 1- Everyone is unique. You have that right. If people have the same taste in music though they normally tend to listen.

Reason 2 - What if you are on a computer at say, a library, with no media player installed but want some music? What do you do then?

Reason 3 - If you cannot clearly identify the universal symbols for a media player that have been used since the year dot or are too lazy to scroll down then maybe computers are not for you.

Reason 4 - If you cannot tell between music on a profile and what your own media player is playing then again maybe computers are not for you.

Reason 5 - If you have more than one profile playing at a time then you deserve all you get.

Reason 6 - If you are too lazy to scroll a page then again computers might not be for you. I also love the stereotypical 'everyone listens to rap music' attitude you have there.

Reason 7 - You just seem lazy. It doesn't take a second to turn the volume down.

Reason 8 - Get better internet.

Reason 9 - This negates all the previous rules saying how it is not okay to play music. Now you say it is okay? You seem confused.

Reason 10 - I'm sorry. I didn't know your name was Chris Pirillo.

If you are going to get annoyed at a reply such as this then think twice before posting rubbish like this in the first place.

You started this.

Take care.

The tenth reason is just a joke but I figure anyone who wants to play music on their profile is going to no matter what I say anyway. :-P

That is entirely true.

Which begs the question: why did you post this in the first place?

Take care.

You edited your top post (tl;dr) so my response to your original comment would seem insufficient, and you left your "take care, ian" signature thing in there twice.

I have an opinion. It's that autoplaying music on profiles is annoying. My opinion is based on those ten reasons. If you don't like them, cool. Thanks. Stop being a little girl, quit whining, go away.

I never said people don't have the right to have autoplaying music. I said it was annoying.

Reason 10 basically says we don't have a right. Joke or no joke :)

Take care.
