If any of you have seen my profile, you can tell I am a huge fan of the Three Stooges. They were comic geniuses and I watch their shorts constantly having purchased just about every VHS/DVD I could find. Now, the Three Stooges are back at MGM after 40 years! Currently known as the UNTITLED THREE STOOGES PROJECT, production will begin this fall and the release is set for 2010.
Farrelly Brothers and MGM are closing their cast choices to play the iconic characters and one choice may surprise you.
Sean Penn has been targeted to play Larry, Benicio Del Toro is set for Moe and believe it or not, Jim Carrey is said to be in the process of gaining 40 pounds to approximate Curly's body mass for the role of the "Super Stooge."
The movie will not be a biography but rather a comedy built around the antics of the three characters that Moe Howard, Larry Fine and Curly Howard played in the Columbia Pictures shorts.
"The Three Stooges are a timeless staple of comedy and when we heard what the Farrellys had in mind we knew it was time for Larry, Moe and Curly to return to the big screen" (November 3, 2009; Mary Parent, Chairman, Worldwide Motion Picture Group.)
I can't wait!
