What does Mac OS X have that you love? What does GNU/Linux have that you love? What does Windows have that you don't hate? Does neither of these OS' have what you need?

Combine these and you will have your dream OS.

Personally I would like a OS, where your desktop, could contain all sorts of info, like RSS feeds, widgets, shortcuts to programs or web pages, search bars etc. About any material you want. I would like it to have the elegance of the Mac OS X with beautiful transitions and simple design. I would like it to be able to quickly manage and share data with others through simple drag and drop. For example if I want to give a Mac OS X usera file, I can have his computer(s) on a list and I just drag the file to the computers name, and it is sent to his/her computer (through a cloud if it is not on).

So what do you think?

well ..wine is growing up every day, you can get a huge list of games that work on linux through wine, so is matter of time.

True.

But... (OK, that's not Linux fault, but for the record...) ATI doesn't give a * about their drivers on Linux. So as long as I'm stuck with that ATI graphics card, I won't be able to do the switch completely.

I guess THAT is the real problem preventing me to stay on Linux. Good chances are that my next laptop will be an Alienware, or at least, anything that doesn't have an ATI inside.

Ding! My reason linux isn't on my laptop anymore. ATI unsupported the 2xxx series of mobility chipsets earlier this year. *Load of BS in my opinion*. Before that I had successful gaming with a program called "PlayOnLinux"

Apple computers were available when Windows first came about. Linux and Unix based Operating systems have been around since that time as well. The same choices of today were available back in the early days. I don't see any unfair advantage with Windows being installed on PCs. Apple could release their OS and allow it to be installed on any PC if they have issues over the amount of computers running Windows. Simply they are not interested in doing so out of fear that they would have to deal with the same issues that Microsoft deals with....getting their OS to run on millions of combination of hardware. They want to play it safe and run it on their approved hardware only.

The bottom line is people had the choice to buy anything they wanted..even in the beginning of all of this and the majority chose Windows. That's why they are where they are today.

I am sorry if I offended anyone, but it was ment as a joke. (I have a bad sense of humor)

I wouldn't say you offended anyone! Unfortunately the mention of more than one operating system at one sparked another OS War.

Just leave it to google to provide the best OS

That won't happen. Not to mention that Google is terrible at GUI's. Take a look at Google chat for a google example. The interface looks like it was designed about 25 years ago, and the program itself is very unstable and crashes or hangs all the time. Nothing else ever does that to me. Google is all hype and they will never be a serious threat to any company as far as the OS goes..especially Microsoft. It's all wishful thinking on Googles part.

"Best" does not mean "Pretty" which was half your argument. and google chat has never crashed on me *?

Just on my own opinion; Google will probably wipe the netbook market clean. It doesn't matter your stance on windows, XP on netbooks has always been unstable. If Google DO release a OS that is stable, based on something solid, gets a community behind it and rolls out onto one major brand of computer Microsoft will have a run for its money.

Possibly. @Martin has another opinion though and I somehow agree with him. (http://www.ghacks.net/2009/07/10/why-google-chrome-os-will-have-no-...).

Isn't it Linux?! :) Or Mac.. I don't know too much about Mac, but I guess they don't have any virus problem either.
