What does Mac OS X have that you love? What does GNU/Linux have that you love? What does Windows have that you don't hate? Does neither of these OS' have what you need?

Combine these and you will have your dream OS.

Personally I would like a OS, where your desktop, could contain all sorts of info, like RSS feeds, widgets, shortcuts to programs or web pages, search bars etc. About any material you want. I would like it to have the elegance of the Mac OS X with beautiful transitions and simple design. I would like it to be able to quickly manage and share data with others through simple drag and drop. For example if I want to give a Mac OS X usera file, I can have his computer(s) on a list and I just drag the file to the computers name, and it is sent to his/her computer (through a cloud if it is not on).

So what do you think?

Mac's graphical and command line user interface, stability, drag & drop EVERYTHING and usable with only one mouse button (Aqua + Unix)
Windows's gaming capabilities(most games on the PC platform).
Linux's customizability (limitless) and system requirements (nonexistent).
iPhone OS's Multi-Touch capabilities.

That would be my dream OS.

Unfortunately there's no such thing.

No such thing yet...

I agree with the one mouse button. It is simple, elegant, and most important: ergonomic!

I'm sorry but the mighty mouse is NOT ergonomic.

What's "ergonomic" to you may be "ergonomic" to someone else.

Everyone doesn't have the same exact hands.

I agree with matt here. I like the mighty mouse fine, and it's much better than my last "Ergonomic" mouse. I have larger hands than most people; but i still find the mouse quite comfortable.

Gotta agree. ^^

Got to agree with Jorge.
To me ergonomic means that, maybe they took 100 people and learned there mouse techniques and hand movements and lets say molded a mouse with those techniques in mind.
Maybe they did and everyone involved had cute little baby hands. (lol)

U see like some of the Microsoft mice... uhm? some of the Logitech... but mighty mouse is sooooo basic. Not only visually but the buttons, 3 buttons? I can't use anything less than a 5. OH, and not only that! If you want to go wireless with a might mouse u must ditch out $60. WTF? $60 for a basic mouse.
They said they kept it that way to make it easier to use. Dude, Do they think we (apple users) are TARDS???? That we couldn't figure out a 5 button mouse.

Yes, I guess it works for some as in, small flat cutesy. But I'm beyond cutesy. I need proactive, efficient something practical.

Who said anything about the Mighty Mouse? It's not a one-button mouse.

In fact, it's a four button mouse. Primary, Secondary buttons, then one at the sides (only one button, you squeeze the mouse, the middle button (the scroll ball button), + there's the scroll ball with 360 degree scrolling.

But I do agree, the Mighty Mouse ISN'T ergonomic at all. It's the worst mouse i've ever used in my life. A £1 USB Optical mouse from the local food store is better than that. Maybe not as precise, but it feels better in my hand.

I HATE the Mighty Mouse. What the hell was/is Apple thinking with that?

It's also very true that there is no; and unfortunately will be no such thing.

Don't you realize that there are people who LOVE Windows just as much as people love OS X and Linux? Your comment "What does Windows have that you don't hate" simply implies that all Windows users tolerate and make the best of what they have. Very passive aggressive statement when you intentionally chose the word Love for OSX and Linux.
Windows wouldn't be where it is today relative to all other OSes if the best the end user could hope for were features they didn't hate.

To be fair though, Windows is only where it is today due to the lack of choice, 90% of computers come with Windows, end-users don't really have a choice, or even realise there is a choice.

But I agree with your statement that this post has started with a slightly unfair view of Windows, lets see what people would want from the Windows world in their perfect OS (besides gaming that is).

In fact, gaming is really the only thing that's missing on the Linux part of my dual boot... And there wouldn't be dual boot anymore!
