Do you Think Apple's Mac OS X should be available for other OEM's other than Apple such as Dell or HP? Do you think the world would benefit from this action from Apple? There are no Right or Wrong Answers. Feel free to post and know I will not attack you.
I'm curious, though I myself have no interest in a Mac it seems odd to me that the number of people who are against gaining the availability of Mac OS X on other OEMs comment on hardware issues. With proper licensing restrictions this could be easily handled. It would force certain hardware options to be used with all Mac OSX releases would it not?
And Licensing fees would help to offset costs. The best forms of Mac would still only be produced by Macintosh and people would know that. Consider that people still choose cheap Windows PC OEMs over expensive Macintosh. Those still looking for a great deal will go with the less expensive versions, but having a semi-good experience with a Mac OS X might compel them to think about the more expensive brand. And those of you who still hold onto Mac for dear life would naturally stick with the more expensive systems.
If you consider price is the biggest thing keeping people from Mac is it in Macintosh's favor or to their disadvantage to offer a lower price, but not necessarily lower quality product. A slower machine to be sure, but if the OS itself is truly effective, a stable one.
But then of course I don't know what I'm talking about. And this wouldn't change my mind one way or the other. As I keep saying I've never managed to use the latest Macs without crashing them.
No,how many times do people really buy an os? Most of the time people switch to an os is because they are buying new hardware(laptops, desktops ect..) besides apple loves to have %100 control over its products. What i do think is that some companies should start doing more proprietary software that is unix/linux based like what asus is doing. All i run now is osX on my macbook pro and linux on my eepc and dell laptop and i think people are getting a great deal(because linux is free) if they switch to linux due to them not liking windows anymore. Then again your general consumer is not bright enough to install linux.
I installed it....it's nothing special. To me at least, and possibly to the general consumer either. Most of it is commandline run, and the installation and software range is not all that great. Now granted as it gains popularity, as it has since the early 90s, more and more companies cater to it but...the software run on the OS is just as important as the OS. Because without software, an OS is just there.
And many just don't want to learn new software because they are dissatisfied with their current OS. Usually a waste of time when you can just deal with the current problems until they get fixed.
Personally windows was never bad enough for me to abandon anyway so I am more than content to wait as it attempts to improve itself. That and I crash MACs easily. And my software is windows only and doesn't run well in WINE.
