I'm finding a lot in common with many of you geeks. I'm curious, are any of you bookworms? Have you ever belonged to a bookclub? I was a member of a bookclub but it became rather competitive. After a while the reading began to feel more like an assignment instead of getting together for the fun of it.
Used to do a miniscule amount of writing, none of it post-worthy. As for bookworm... I had too many math/science credits at the end of high school, so for my Senior year, I had a class that was set up specially for me. Librarian's Assistant, helped that she was my sister's piano teacher and a friend of my mum's, and it sure as hell beat the pants off of an extra Phys Ed. Credit...
I refuse to pay full price for a book....I find a lot of really good books at flea markets and thrift stores since I adore reading a good book.
I also bought about five books on E bay not long back. I sent the person a message asking if they would give me a deal on shipping.....they shipped for fifty-cents per book. It never hurts to ask.
I am a bookworm when I have time, but I have never belonged to a bookclub. I collect books from my favorite authors, but my collection isn't for looks, I re-read a lot of my books when I run out of things to read. I am a fantasy and sci-fi junkie but I venture out and read things like Marley & Me and some sleuth type things occasionally.
I am a devout bibliophile. I read 5-6 books a week. I have found that some of the best places to get books are also thrift stores and especially garage sales. I have a little over 500 books, it is an extremely eclectic mix. I have read every book that I own at least once most of them more than once.
I am as much a book geek as I am a tech geek!! When I was a child and home pc's were just a twinkle in ibm's eye I used to belong to the Puffin book club here in the uk.
I read Watership down in one day and the Silmarillion in 2 days!!
I have been know to miss the last bus home after stopping off at a bookshop and staying there all day!! The owner of the shop gave me a lift home lol
I also get most of my books from a thrift store. Some even has a series of books from my favorite author and other interesting materials. I have like, fifteen more books to finish this month. Void Moon by Micheal Connelly is on my bed side table this last few days. Riled Up! | Debate Site
At one time I had over 10,000 books. My last move was into a much smaller house, and I had to drastically trim the numbers. Needless to say I read a LOT. Flea markets and thrift stores are a major source for me. Check out your local Goodwill stores - mine have a book section and giveaway prices.
Huge bookworm here. Back in third year in school my class had a library visit every week and we had to record the books we'd read. Various certificates were handed out for the amount of books. If you read 30 then you got a gold certificate. I ended up with a count of over 60, probably more. It used to annoy the teacher having to sign the record of each one lol.
If the book is good enough I even go as far to read in public. I've decided it's an art form to be able to walk through a busy town with book in one hand and shopping bag in the other without bumping into things...
There's been a program in our school for as long as I can remember, where the kids can earn a pizza from pizza hut for reading or for the youngest kids being read to. My own kids loved it. We also have an all school party/fair at the end of the year to recognize all the reading the students do. They really have fun. So do we.
