I have to wonder how many computer minded people who are really into the new age of technology have any hobbies outside what they do while sitting.

Do any of yáll have hobbies other than things that have to do with gaming or computers?

I do. Gardening is fun and when Spring comes, I will not be online that much. Hiking is great in the fall or early spring and I just love being outside in the great outdoors.

There was a time when I played golf but not anymore. Green fees are out of sight.

So? What do you do if anything other that sit? :D

I used to do cross-stitching and plastic canvas. But supplies cost money. I love to read, but books cost money. I am not able to get out to the library anymore. So I have re-read all my books at least 5 times.

I play fingerstyle acoustic guitar, something I've done since 1973. I do use the internet to get training material and tablature though!

I am so delighted to hear of all of my friends having hobbies.

It doesn't matter what it is, we all need a hobby. A friend of mine told me a few years ago that their computer was their hobby.

It must have been when I ask them the same question.

Diane do you live in a city with a mobile Library? Surely, you could ask a friend or family member to go to the library for you every couple of weeks.

I had an older friend who didn't get out much and I took her to the library. After a while, I knew what she enjoyed reading. It was a good thing too because she became house bound. That was when I would just go pick her put about six books to read.

She was always delighted. Ask someone to do this favor for you.

When Tony died, all my "friends" disappeared. Maybe they thought I would ask them for help? Who knows. And the only person I do have, is too busy. I did call the libray and they no longer have a book mobile, the woman said. I'll have to check around.

I'm into photography. I love taking pictures. I'm not a pro, still learning and improving and I am looking to buy a DSLR - have my heart set on the Canon Rebel XSI. I also enjoy music, pretty much all genres. I would like to teach myself to play the keyboard and drums and also improve my singing.

Oooooooh the wonders in diversity!

Such an undertaking could be a vision quest and find you in unfamiliar waters. Imagine having to learn others ways of having to churn life to a different beat or simply a different whisk of air hmmmmmmm!

I am very musically oriented and play the Saxophone and a bit of piano. I also like to play Axis & Allies with my friends in the middle of the night :P . I am also an artist. If any of you are on the ConceptArt Forums, look me up, my handle is Bullsey. I also like photography.

Gosh, I hope you do something other than computing. Life would be kinda dull without some diversity. My other Hobbies are Shortwave Radio Listening and Amateur Radio (call sign K4KSW) go to www.qrz.com and type my callsign in the search box. I'm using a computer controlled radio for SWL which has some really cool features. Also help out local Veterans: like getting them into VA Health Care and belong to Vets 4 Vets , helping homeless Vets in St. Johns County, FL.

I'm into creative writing- particularly fantasy or sci-fi. I started going to a monthly writer's group last fall, which is pretty amazing for me... I haven't belonged to a club or group of any kind (where I'd go "do" things) ever! (I mean, I was in Mensa, but I didn't "do" anything because of my anxiety disorder and general shyness. I couldn't afford dues for a while there, so I'm inactive now.)

I won this past year's National Novel Writing Month (nanowrimo.org), passing the 50,000 word mark in three weeks of November. Now that I've determined my current schedule is going to be open the next handful of months, I have to go back and finish the 2nd half of the book and then start the revision process. I hope to have a finished copy by this fall. And it's only book one in a planned trilogy! Phew. If you want to read an excerpt from the prologue (an *unrevised* excerpt), it can be found here: http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/user/304357

Also, as part of my spirituality as a Druid I also practice using the Druid Animal Oracle and Druidcraft Tarot. Many people who are unaware of Tarot and Oracles think it has to do with stuff about telling the future or fortune telling, and that's nonsense. They are simply tools that provide psychological insights into issues you face. Think of it as jumper cables to get your brain to work. You pose the question "What should I do about my career woes?" and the results from the reading make you analyze your own actions and thought process, therefore making breakthroughs.

For instance, I was stuck for 6 years trying to figure out what to do about my career problems (my career having been taken away from me) and it wasn't until I did a few readings from the Oracle and Tarot that I broke through some mental barriers, saw how I was acting in regards to certain matters, and began to move forward.

They're really interesting tools!

Lastly, because I want to date again in my lifetime, I'm going to join a gym in the next week or so here and start going. I got a Wii Fit for Christmas and have been using that, and last summer I asked for a mountain bike to start riding during the 4 months of ridable weather we get here in Michigan. =P I have a 20 year high school reunion (oh dear god, 20 years?) in 2010 and if I lose enough weight, I can go. Otherwise I'll pass- I really don't want to be overweight and have to explain that no, I have no wife or kids, haven't been working, and yes, your family is so great and I'm glad you have two homes and make 100k+ per year. I'd end up killing myself leaving such a reunion. X_X At least if I lose weight I can suffer through the lack of wife and kids, knowing I look good! =P

Otherwise, nope. No other hobbies. Gaming is my primary hobby by far- I can't find anything else I adore as much. And when I lost my last job in Chicago and moved back home, I lost my friends, so I have no friends to do things with. (And I don't get along with guys very well, and since I'm shy it's hard to meet female friends, so I'm pretty much on my own for activities! I see many movies by myself.)
